- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Resolution of Non-Performing Loans: Discussion (Resumed) (17 May 2018)
Kieran O'Donnell: This goes to the point of what Mr. David Hall has said. In some cases, they have been making mortgage repayments which they clearly could not afford.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Resolution of Non-Performing Loans: Discussion (Resumed) (17 May 2018)
Kieran O'Donnell: The human aspect here is what happens if we put those people out of that house. Their children go to school locally. The council probably will not have property. They will have to go on the list. The human dimension of it is that we would create a lot more problems than solutions. The mechanism by which the mortgage-to-rent scheme is funded probably needs to be looked at. However, the...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Resolution of Non-Performing Loans: Discussion (Resumed) (17 May 2018)
Kieran O'Donnell: This is about non-disclosure. If the banks are undercharging customers - I have seen this over the years - they pursue them with a vengeance in order to get the correct rate back. They do not ask whether the lower rate actually saved the individual. They just take the money back. I have seen this happen to countless clients over the years. Just because there was a cohort with tracker...

- Seanad: Rural Development: Statements (23 May 2018)
Kieran O'Donnell: I welcome the Minister, Deputy Ring, to the Seanad. I commend him on the work he has done to date in rural development. I know it is something close to his heart. He was in Limerick recently and he visited a range of projects such as one that had been funded by the Department in Murroe, County Limerick. He saw what it means to rural Ireland. He is welcome in Limerick any time. I wish to...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Insurance Costs for Community Groups: Discussion (24 May 2018)
Kieran O'Donnell: It is a bit like groundhog day. We have been dealing with insurance for many years. To be honest, I hope this gets coverage as it reminds me of other issues. As a group, the witnesses are bringing to the table something that we did not get with various other presentations. They are at the coalface. We had a similar experience with mortgages, which came about with four excellent...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Insurance Costs for Community Groups: Discussion (24 May 2018)
Kieran O'Donnell: Which company is that?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Insurance Costs for Community Groups: Discussion (24 May 2018)
Kieran O'Donnell: The increase was between 20% and 30% in the past 12 months. Is FBD ripping off the marts? We will have its representatives in later and ask them the same question. At this stage there is too much tiptoeing around. The bottom line is the witness has told me insurance premiums have gone up by 20% or 30%.
