- Seanad: Order of Business (4 Apr 2007)
Sheila Terry: He will need a few for himself.
- Seanad: Order of Business (5 Apr 2007)
Sheila Terry: I support what Senator Quinn said about children and poverty. Later today Barnardos will launch what it calls an election manifesto, which is opportune. It will highlight the fact that one in nine children lives in consistent poverty. The figure is up from last year when one in ten children lived in consistent poverty. Consistent poverty is the best way to measure the poor circumstances...
- Seanad: Order of Business (5 Apr 2007)
Sheila Terry: Happy Easter to the Leader.
- Seanad: Death of Former Member: Expressions of Sympathy. (25 Apr 2007)
Sheila Terry: I join others in extending my sympathies to Kate's family and colleagues in the Progressive Democrats Party. Kate was a friend to Senators and will be greatly missed by us all. I was so happy to see her in the House just before Easter. I thought she looked wonderful that day and she was very happy to be here. Kate had very special qualities which, as others have stated, were recognised by...
- Seanad: Order of Business (26 Apr 2007)
Sheila Terry: I support the comments made by the leader of the Opposition, Senator Brian Hayes, on the establishment of an office for the prevention of domestic violence, under the auspices of the Minister of State at the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform, Deputy Fahey. I agree with the Senator's view that the proposal seems to be too narrow in focus. While the establishment of such an...
- Seanad: Commission of Investigation into Leas Cross Nursing Home: Motion. (26 Apr 2007)
Sheila Terry: I welcome the Minister to the House and extend my sympathies to her and her party on the untimely death of Senator Kate Walsh. We will miss her greatly and very moving speeches were made by many Senators in the House yesterday. She was loved by all of us here and may she rest in peace. I welcome the establishment of this commission of investigation as it will give some comfort to families...
- Seanad: Order of Business (1 May 2007)
Sheila Terry: One issue I have raised consistently on the Order of Business is pensions. I regret the Minister for Social and Family Affairs, Deputy Brennan, has not published the Green Paper on pensions which was to be published around the middle of April. It is a shame that at the end of our term we have not had the opportunity to debate it. It will probably not be published before the general...
- Seanad: Order of Business (1 May 2007)
Sheila Terry: It will not now be published.
- Seanad: Order of Business (1 May 2007)
Sheila Terry: It is another broken promise.
- Seanad: Order of Business (1 May 2007)
Sheila Terry: Perhaps when the Leader replies she will be able to tell me if the Minister will publish the Green Paper on pensions before the general election. I wish everybody standing for election to the Dáil or the Seanad well. I also wish those who are not contesting the elections well, including Senators Dardis and Bohan and perhaps one or two others who are retiring. On my behalf and that of my...
- Seanad: Child Care (Amendment) Bill 2006 [Seanad Bill amended by the Dáil]: Report and Final Stages (1 May 2007)
Sheila Terry: I thank the Minister of State and his officials for the work that has gone into this Bill. It was merely a question of listening to the Minister of State and I am sorry he had to speak without having a break. This Bill is welcome. It certainly strengthens the existing legislation. It should be worthwhile in the interests of protecting children.
