- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: IDA Ireland: Chairperson Designate (21 Feb 2024)
David Stanton: I have just one or two other issues I want to raise. A referendum on the Unified Patent Court is coming up in June. I am sure Mr. O'Rourke is aware of it. It is very important and we have done some work on it here. I am not sure whether Mr. O'Rourke could give a view on the impact it could have on companies and businesses within the IDA Ireland portfolio.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: IDA Ireland: Chairperson Designate (21 Feb 2024)
David Stanton: That is okay. Mr. O'Rourke might revert to us on that. A question I have been raising quite a bit here, on which I have tabled parliamentary questions for the Minister for Justice this week and which I raised last week and the week before, concerns intra-company transfer employment permits. Several people and companies have raised this with me. We spoke about skill levels. One way of...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: IDA Ireland: Chairperson Designate (21 Feb 2024)
David Stanton: In fairness, I believe the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment is very much in favour of this, but it is a matter of that Department and the Department of Justice coming together and changing the legislation or rules to achieve what is required. I am told by some companies that the existing arrangements are having a detrimental effect.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: IDA Ireland: Chairperson Designate (21 Feb 2024)
David Stanton: Deputy Bruton spoke about data centres. This matter is very important. Is IDA Ireland doing anything to encourage companies to establish their own renewable energy systems on the roofs of buildings and so on? Are there any incentives for companies to do that? I am referring to solar in particular.

David Stanton: In what way are we supporting them?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: IDA Ireland: Chairperson Designate (21 Feb 2024)
David Stanton: Mr. O'Rourke might give us some details in a note on the assistance IDA Ireland is giving the companies.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: IDA Ireland: Chairperson Designate (21 Feb 2024)
David Stanton: I strongly support my constituency colleague concerning Youghal. We are both well aware that the town once had full employment, going back to the 1960s, but that all the traditional jobs closed. Because the town is cut off from everywhere else, being in a cul-de-sac on its own, it may be an area that Mr. O'Rourke could pay attention to. Perhaps he could ask the board to consider this. I...
- Ceisteanna ar Pholasaí nó ar Reachtaíocht - Questions on Policy or Legislation (21 Feb 2024)
David Stanton: It has been four months almost to the day since Storm Babet devastated my part of the country. The Taoiseach and Ministers visited and offered huge support, which was very welcome. What we did not see at the time was the devastation caused to roads. There was approximately €60 million worth of damage. I am told that the Department of Transport can only give €13 million at...

- Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Immigration Policy (22 Feb 2024)
David Stanton: I ask the Minister to tell me her plans to integrate the immigration permissions and employment permits system. How advanced is that work and when will we see a decision and action on it?
- Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Immigration Policy (22 Feb 2024)
David Stanton: I thank the Minister. I urge her to move that along as quickly as possible, given it has been ongoing for some time. On the issue of employment permits, we are an outlier in the European Union and, indeed, in much of the OECD world in that there is no direct access for dependants of those with intra-company transfer employment permits. We are the only ones who do not give that access....
- Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Immigration Policy (22 Feb 2024)
David Stanton: I welcome the Minister's commitment to this. The Department of enterprise is on the same playing field as her on this, so it is a matter of the two Departments getting together and making it happen. The Minister might write to me setting out what is required to make it happen. The spouses and partners of those with critical skills visas can work automatically. There is no issue there. It...
