Joint Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs: Lusitania Museum and Related Matters: Discussion (18 Sep 2019)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: Is the company confident? Obviously, Mr. Hayes cannot say for sure which way it will go. He has said that they sound receptive and hopeful. He thinks there is a possibility that they may support this particular funding application.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs: Lusitania Museum and Related Matters: Discussion (18 Sep 2019)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: I understand there is much more to it.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs: Lusitania Museum and Related Matters: Discussion (18 Sep 2019)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: When the funding application comes in for this scheme, I am sure the Department will ask the company and the local community to set out whether they can provide some of their own funding, etc. Obviously, this is a huge stack of money that nobody has hanging around. Is there any indication that philanthropists or other people who have an interest in the Lusitania might be willing to support...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs: Lusitania Museum and Related Matters: Discussion (18 Sep 2019)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: For sure.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs: Lusitania Museum and Related Matters: Discussion (18 Sep 2019)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: I have a final question. We have spoken about the recovery of the artefacts. The ownership of the wreck is in the hands of the company. Does the company have anything in mind for the wreck itself after all of the artefacts have been recovered. Maybe it is not possible to do anything with the remaining structure of the ship. Is it the case that there is an endless supply?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs: Lusitania Museum and Related Matters: Discussion (18 Sep 2019)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: All right. I again thank our guests for attending. We are very grateful to them. I hope they have enjoyed the meeting and found it to be of benefit. Go raibh míle maith agaibh. I wish them a safe journey back to west Cork.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs: Lusitania Museum and Related Matters: Discussion (18 Sep 2019)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: Very well. I thank Mr. Hayes for those words. Any of us can visit as individuals. I would say we will all take that on board. If the company wants to issue us with an official invitation, we can take that on board. We have already identified at least two, and possibly three or four, visits for the next 12 months. We also have our committee meetings. We will see if and when we can fit...

Ceisteanna - Questions - Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: Acht na dTeangacha Oifigiúla (19 Sep 2019)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: 2. To ask the Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht cad é an mhoill anois ar fhoilsiú Bhille na dTeangacha Oifigiúla (Leasú) atá geallta aici féin agus ag Airí eile a raibh an Ghaeilge agus an Ghaeltacht mar chúram acu le blianta beaga anuas, agus cathain go cinnte a fheicfear é foilsithe. [37926/19]

Ceisteanna - Questions - Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: Acht na dTeangacha Oifigiúla (19 Sep 2019)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: Ar nós an Teachta dheireanaigh, tréaslaím leis na healaíontóirí agus le foireann Ghaillimh 2020 as an tús ar chuir siad leis an gclár mór atá acu. Go n-éirí leo sa bhliain atá rompu. An fáth gur chuir mé an cheist seo faoi bhráid an Aire Stáit ná go bhfuil moill leanúnach ar fhoilsiú Bhille...

Ceisteanna - Questions - Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: Acht na dTeangacha Oifigiúla (19 Sep 2019)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: Gabhaim buíochas leis an Aire Stáit. Aontaím leis agus leo siúd a bhí ag obair ar an mBille seo sa chúlra ó 2004, agus fiú roimhe sin ón uair a dúradh ar dtús báire nach raibh an chéad Acht, Acht na dTeangacha Oifigiúla 2003, foirfe agus go raibh sé lochtach. Ó shin i leith tá daoine ag tnúth leis an...

Ceisteanna - Questions - Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: Acht na dTeangacha Oifigiúla (19 Sep 2019)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: Gabhaim buíochas leis an Aire Stáit as sin. Táim ag tnúth leis. Ní chuirfidh mise ná mo chomhghleacaithe aon mhoill air. Is é an rud atá uainn anois ná go mbeidh sé rite agus go mbainfear tairbhe as an obair ar fad atá déanta. Tá súil agam go mbeidh an tAire Stáit oscailte do leasuithe eile ag Chéim an Choiste...

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: 13. To ask the Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht the steps she has taken to fund the National Museum of Ireland plans to reflect fully the history of Ireland in a permanent exhibition in Collins Barracks from the United Irishmen, the Famine, the Fenians and onwards. [37936/19]

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: National Museum (19 Sep 2019)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: This question relates to the National Museum of Ireland and asks what steps the Minister will take to help the museum as it continues its preparation to add to its exhibitions in Collins Barracks of various periods of Irish history, in particular the modern part.

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: National Museum (19 Sep 2019)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: I am aware of the National Museum's plans. I am also aware that 22 years ago it moved much of its collection to Collins Barracks. I have a particular interest because my father worked in the National Museum for more than 30 years. At the time of the move to Collins Barracks, we were told the site would allow for a large expansion in the exhibition space in order that the museum could...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: National Museum (19 Sep 2019)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: The Minister mentioned the decade of centenaries, which has occurred in previous years. During the period, particularly until 2016, there was specific funding for legacy programmes. I encourage the Minister, if possible when it arrives on her desk, to examine the plan for the exhibition at the museum from 1900 to 1922. At the very least, it should be considered as one of the legacy...

Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons Bill 2019: Second Stage (19 Sep 2019)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: Tacaíonn mise leis, agus fáiltíonn mo pháirtí roimh, an mBille um Thoirmeasc ar Airm Núicléacha 2019. Táim den tuairim go nglacfar leis d'aon ghuth sa Teach seo agus sa Seanad. Tá súil agam nach seasfaidh aon dhuine sna hinstitiúidí seo i gcoinne an Bhille seo agus an fáth gur cuireadh os ár gcomhair é. Tugann an...

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: 18. To ask the Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht cén céimeanna atá á nglacadh chun a bheith cinnte de go bhfuil an maoiniú cuí ann d’fhoilsitheoirí leabhar Gaeilge amach anseo agus ceann de na foilsitheoirí Gaeilge móra (Cois Life) dúnta ina iomláine, agus deacrachtaí ina measc siúd atá fágtha de...
