Kieran O'Donnell: We had representatives from Bank of Ireland before us a number of days ago. Bank of Ireland stated that 6,000 of its customers were in similar discussions. In a number of those cases, the areas of discussion that arose before the new CEO was appointed concerned the fact the mortgages were taken out before the consumer protection code was introduced in 2006.

If the roles were reversed and I were the customer and he were the banker pursuing me for my mortgage, I do not think he would be as civil, and that is the core of the problem.
