Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport: Urban Public and Sustainable Transport: Discussion (1 Oct 2025)

Grace Boland: How? Is it from the bus driver?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport: Urban Public and Sustainable Transport: Discussion (1 Oct 2025)

Grace Boland: We know that is not always happening.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport: Urban Public and Sustainable Transport: Discussion (1 Oct 2025)

Grace Boland: There used to be a better system of capturing that.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport: Urban Public and Sustainable Transport: Discussion (1 Oct 2025)

Grace Boland: I am sorry. I know I sound frustrated, but I feel the stress when I get these emails. It is simply not good enough. There are supposed to be double-decker buses on this service and there are not. It is letting people down. One student had to spend €45 getting an Uber to DCU. It was her first week in college and she could not get on the bus. I got off the train at Dublin's Pearse...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport: Urban Public and Sustainable Transport: Discussion (1 Oct 2025)

Grace Boland: Obviously, I ask for the additional double-decker buses that will come to be prioritised for this route, please.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport: Urban Public and Sustainable Transport: Discussion (1 Oct 2025)

Grace Boland: I appreciate that.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport: Urban Public and Sustainable Transport: Discussion (1 Oct 2025)

Grace Boland: I thank Mr. Creegan and Mr. Kent. I appreciate it. I will come back in again, when we go back around.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport: Urban Public and Sustainable Transport: Discussion (1 Oct 2025)

Grace Boland: Three minutes is just not enough. I will give it a go. The national fares strategy aims to provide more consistent equitable fares structure across Ireland based on crow-flight distance travelled. As we discussed before, that is simply not accurate for zone 2 Dublin commuters. I will give an example. I received an email last night from someone who said she was writing again to complain...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport: Urban Public and Sustainable Transport: Discussion (1 Oct 2025)

Grace Boland: One can get a train to Rush and Lusk and get the bus to Skerries for €2 but if one stays on the train-----

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport: Urban Public and Sustainable Transport: Discussion (1 Oct 2025)

Grace Boland: I know why it is there. I am highlighting that it is inequitable. It does not reflect distance travelled.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport: Urban Public and Sustainable Transport: Discussion (1 Oct 2025)

Grace Boland: It is completely inequitable. I understand the rationale but it is inequitable that a train journey from Rush and Lusk to Skerries, which is 7 km, would cost a Leap fare of €2.30 yet one can travel all the way from Dublin Pearse to Rush and Lusk for €2. It makes no sense.

Public Accounts Committee: Financial Statements 2024: Tusla - the Child and Family Agency (2 Oct 2025)

Grace Boland: As I said at the children's committee, I do not underestimate the burden that all those in Tusla have. I really do thank them for all the very good work it does. Obviously, it is dealing with the most vulnerable children in our society. We would not be doing our jobs if we did not robustly hold the witnesses to account and make sure things are working between them and the Department. We...

Public Accounts Committee: Financial Statements 2024: Tusla - the Child and Family Agency (2 Oct 2025)

Grace Boland: It was reported in The Irish Times about very at-risk children who secure accommodation. There were a couple of reports a couple of months ago in the papers about contentious correspondence between Ms Duggan and the Department.

Public Accounts Committee: Financial Statements 2024: Tusla - the Child and Family Agency (2 Oct 2025)

Grace Boland: I appreciate that. The Department really does need to work in a very supportive and collaborative way with Tusla. The burden of the work Tusla has unbelievably broad. The children it deals with are at risk and very vulnerable and it is very important that the Department and the State agency tasked with this very serious responsibility work in concert. A large number of data breaches have...

Public Accounts Committee: Financial Statements 2024: Tusla - the Child and Family Agency (2 Oct 2025)

Grace Boland: I appreciate that but what is the number of serious breaches?

Public Accounts Committee: Financial Statements 2024: Tusla - the Child and Family Agency (2 Oct 2025)

Grace Boland: Can Ms Duggan give us a flavour of the types of issues?

Public Accounts Committee: Financial Statements 2024: Tusla - the Child and Family Agency (2 Oct 2025)

Grace Boland: I appreciate that.

Public Accounts Committee: Financial Statements 2024: Tusla - the Child and Family Agency (2 Oct 2025)

Grace Boland: For example, an alleged abuser is emailed information notifying them of the location of the women and children, what steps are taken to make sure those women and children are protected?

Public Accounts Committee: Financial Statements 2024: Tusla - the Child and Family Agency (2 Oct 2025)

Grace Boland: How long did that take? As in, for what period of time did the abuser know the location of the woman and children?
