Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31. (12 Oct 2005)

Trevor Sargent: I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 so that we can analyse the cost to the taxpayer resulting from the Government's admission that it has no chance of meeting the initial Kyoto pledge to reduce CO2 emissions and to examine the opportunities and incentives towards efficient energy use and renewable energy technologies which the Government has not yet developed or supported.

Order of Business. (12 Oct 2005)

Trevor Sargent: We have heard the same reply from the Taoiseach with regard to five pieces of promised legislation, so we will take his assurance with a pinch of salt. I wish to ask about legislation in the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform. On the basis that site clearance has already commenced at Thornton Hall——

Order of Business. (12 Oct 2005)

Trevor Sargent: A sum of €30 million is a lot of money for a farm worth €6 million. One would expect the prison services Bill to be enacted before the expenditure of such a sum of money would be discussed. Is there any sign of the Bill?

Irish Ferries: Motion (Resumed). (12 Oct 2005)

Trevor Sargent: Gabhaim buíochas leis an Teachta Morgan as a chuid ama a roinnt agus leis na Teachtaí Neamhspleácha agus an Páirtí Sóisialach as an rún seo a chur os ár gcomhair. Tugann an Comhaontas Glas tacaíocht 100% dó. This is a very important motion because the issue involves the livelihoods of some 600 workers, with those of many others perhaps depending on the outcome at Irish Ferries. It...

Trevor Sargent: I agree with Deputy Walsh. They are watching the match.

Grocery Industry. (12 Oct 2005)

Trevor Sargent: Like Deputy Walsh I wish to know whether the Minister will take this or who will do so? Am I left also without a Minister?

Grocery Industry. (12 Oct 2005)

Trevor Sargent: On a point of order, is there any plan in place for either the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment or the Minister for Agriculture and Food to take my Adjournment matter?

Grocery Industry. (12 Oct 2005)

Trevor Sargent: I detect that the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment is in the House.

Grocery Industry. (12 Oct 2005)

Trevor Sargent: I will proceed but the Minister has just arrived in a hurry.

Grocery Industry. (12 Oct 2005)

Trevor Sargent: The Ceann Comhairle must share my frustration. I thank the Minister for coming in a little sooner than he expected to do. He deals regularly with the groceries order and I want to bring to his attention the situation as it applies to constituents of mine who feel particularly vulnerable at the prospect of the groceries order being abolished, or changed in a way that will not take account of...

Written Answers — Broadcasting Legislation: Broadcasting Legislation (12 Oct 2005)

Written Answers — Greenhouse Gas Emissions: Greenhouse Gas Emissions (12 Oct 2005)

Trevor Sargent: Question 153: To ask the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources the likely level of excess carbon emissions from the electricity generating sector above the amount allocated under the European emissions trading system for 2005; and if the trading price for such emissions will have an effect on the future cost of electricity to the Irish public. [27842/05]

Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 1. (13 Oct 2005)

Trevor Sargent: I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to debate a matter of urgent national importance, namely, to allow the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources, Deputy Noel Dempsey, explain to the House how objections to the Corrib gas pipeline sent to the Department were not passed on to the Minister's Corrib gas technical advisory group and in the light of...

Order of Business. (13 Oct 2005)

Trevor Sargent: I respect your decision on Standing Order 31, a Cheann Comhairle, so I will ask a question on promised legislation. Will there be an opportunity, perhaps in dealing with the Natural Gas (Regulation) Bill, or hopefully before that, for the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources, Deputy Noel Dempsey, to make a statement explaining why information was not passed on?

Order of Business. (13 Oct 2005)

Trevor Sargent: The legislation certainly does arise. I am asking about this legislation in the context of my earlier question. I am also asking about the Roads (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill, which needs to be amended to take into account the need for safety measures in dealing with bull bars on SUVs and other problems that have caused injury and fatalities on our roads.
