Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: General Scheme of Local Government (Directly Elected Mayor with Executive Functions in Limerick City and County) Bill 2021: Discussion (Resumed) (29 Jun 2021)

Paul McAuliffe: I thank all the witnesses for contributing. Unlike any other legislation we deal with,, as Mr. Moran outlined, this comes with a democratic mandate that no other topic comes to us with, that is, the people of Limerick have decided on this issue. In some ways our views on it need to be part of that in order that we can reflect that democratic mandate. Many people, particularly at local...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: General Scheme of the Road Traffic (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2019: Minister for Transport (30 Jun 2021)

Paul McAuliffe: I thank the Chair and committee for allowing me to be here. The Minister is bringing forward important legislation. It is trying to include as much reform as is possible in one piece of legislation. The area in which I have a particular interest is the issue of scrambler bikes. I thank everybody who has been involved in campaigning on this issue, primarily the communities throughout the...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: General Scheme of the Road Traffic (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2019: Minister for Transport (30 Jun 2021)

Paul McAuliffe: I know my time is up, Chair, but I would indicate that the Private Members’ Bill before the committee in my name and that of Deputy Lahart deals largely with the issues the Minister has raised. I indicate that at this early stage, in case it helps the committee with its work programme. When the legislation comes forward, it may be a matter of withdrawing it at that stage.

Joint Oireachtas Committee On Key Issues Affecting The Traveller Community: Traveller Accommodation: Discussion (Resumed) (1 Jul 2021)

Paul McAuliffe: I thank everyone for being with us here today. It is important to hear their views. I was absent for some of the previous committee meetings because we have been passing the Land Development Agency, LDA, Bill. There were votes at Report and Final Stages on that, which were completed last night. My question focuses on that because the Bill and the unlocking of the public land bank for the...

Joint Oireachtas Committee On Key Issues Affecting The Traveller Community: Traveller Accommodation: Discussion (Resumed) (1 Jul 2021)

Paul McAuliffe: I am sorry to cut off Mr. O'Connor. I am conscious of the time. The proposals that came forward last night were really significant because in Dublin and Cork they allow for 100% affordable and social housing on public land. That means that all the traditional biases, which are unjustified, surrounding the provision of Traveller accommodation within an overall development, how it might...

Public Accounts Committee: National Paediatric Hospital Development Board: 2019 Financial Statement (Resumed) (13 Jul 2021)

Paul McAuliffe: I thank the Chairman. I will change my timer so I do not run over. I welcome the witnesses. Given that the witnesses appeared before the Joint Committee on Health recently, in many ways this is the replay. I hope we all have a better match than we had on 7 July. There is huge frustration in respect of this project. Forums like the Committee of Public Accounts give those people...
