- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Sports Capital Programme: Discussion (28 Mar 2018)
Kevin O'Keeffe: I have some questions. Earlier, Mr. Fleming referred to regulatory challenges, the code of governance, compliance with the Children's Act 2015 and vetting. Is this something for John Treacy or Mary O'Connor to address this or can the witnesses see a means by which these problems might be resolved? Issues such as governance and vetting are even having an effect on some of the big clubs and...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Sports Capital Programme: Discussion (28 Mar 2018)
Kevin O'Keeffe: It is an issue for all codes, and even for new teachers every time they change school. It is a big issue.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Sports Capital Programme: Discussion (28 Mar 2018)
Kevin O'Keeffe: Participation depends on recruiting pupils from schools and colleges. If the different bodies are all competing at the same school gate, how does one draw the line? I am not a parent. However, I see parents and they are doing three or four runs every Saturday. They are burning out their children because that is what the children want to do.

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Sports Capital Programme: Discussion (28 Mar 2018)

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Sports Capital Programme: Discussion (28 Mar 2018)
Kevin O'Keeffe: My final comment is for Mr. Treacy and Ms O'Connor. It relates to the value of sport to the country for our well-being, prestige, the economy and so on. They have compared us to New Zealand with regard to population and level of activity, but we only get 10% of the budget given in New Zealand. Is that what Mr. Treacy said?

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Ongoing Fodder Crisis: Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine (11 Apr 2018)
Kevin O'Keeffe: I welcome the Minister. I am grateful to hear his response on the tillage sector. It is the first time I have seen an actual knee-jerk reaction from the Department when the tillage sector cries out for help in times of hardship. He said there are lessons to be learned and referred to Foodwise 2025. The Department has said that this was led by industry rather than by its own guidelines. I...

- Fodder Shortage: Motion [Private Members] (17 Apr 2018)
Kevin O'Keeffe: I thank Deputy Sherlock. I support my colleagues' acknowledgement of the fodder crisis. Last night would have put a mental strain on any farmer. In my own backyard, there was an initial booking of 50 pens of cattle in Fermoy mart for today's trade. Only half the lots turned up, and although they sold at a reasonable price, those farmers were not in a position to bring them home again...
