- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Developments in Mental Health Services: Discussion (29 May 2019)
Margaret Murphy O'Mahony: I welcome the witnesses. It is great to see, yet again, a full panel of female witnesses, which is extra welcome. The Darkness Into Light walk, which was held recently, brought the issue of mental health to the fore. As a result of that walk, people were sharing their stories more frequently than they normally would have. I acknowledge everybody who took part in the walk and those who...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Developments in Mental Health Services: Discussion (29 May 2019)
Margaret Murphy O'Mahony: I had not thought of that stigma about serious mental illness. When I think of mental illness, it is the lower form of it rather than the more serious end I am thinking about. Dr. Finnerty's suggestion that there is still much stigma with serious mental illnesses is interesting. Have our guests any ideas for the educational system?

Margaret Murphy O'Mahony: Many people come into my office who are trying to access child and adolescent mental health services, CAMHS, and it would be great if something could be done to make them easy to access. I again stress the importance of 24-7 access. Mental illness does not only hit people during office hours. It would be really good if we could get a date from the Minister for when all of that will kick off.
- An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (11 Jun 2019)
Margaret Murphy O'Mahony: Many west Cork fishermen fish the waters off Rockall. In the Taoiseach's discussions with Nicola Sturgeon, did fishing in any aspect arise? What is the current position with the negotiations that are ongoing? This is more important than squid and haddock. What is at stake is how fishermen will be treated during the Brexit process.
- National Development Plan: Motion [Private Members] (11 Jun 2019)
Margaret Murphy O'Mahony: I wish to speak about issues specifically pertaining to my constituency of Cork South-West. The national planning framework and the national development plan were launched amid much media hype. However, this has long since waned and the truth is that the Government has failed to deliver on a massive scale. I have listened to hours of spin at the health committee on the delivery of the...
