Joint Oireachtas Committee on European Union Affairs: Impact of the Comprehensive Trade and Economic Agreement on Irish-Canadian Trade and Relations: Discussion (13 Apr 2021)

Joint Oireachtas Committee on European Union Affairs: Impact of the Comprehensive Trade and Economic Agreement on Irish-Canadian Trade and Relations: Discussion (13 Apr 2021)

Joe McHugh: Ms Drisdelle has a few minutes, it is okay. Technically we are supposed to finish in 60 seconds but I am conscious that Deputy Ó Murchú also wants a supplementary, so I ask Ms Drisdelle to keep it brief.

Joe McHugh: We have run out of time. I thank the witnesses very much for their engagement. This has been a very worthwhile session. I know members were very anxious to underpin the conversation and engagement today by emphasising the importance of the relationship, historical and otherwise. In our recent history, in 2011, the Canadian Government signed off on 10,000 visas during very dark days in...

Select Committee on the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Irish Speaking Community: Bille na dTeangacha Oifigiúla (Leasú), 2019: Céim an Choiste (Atógáil) (16 Apr 2021)

Joe McHugh: Is léir go bhfuil mearbhall ann inniu faoin ábhar seo. Níl aithne agam ar an bhfadhb. Táim cinnte, dóchasach agus dearfach go mbeidh sé níos soiléire dá mbeadh cumarsáid idir phríomhfheidhmeannach Údarás na Gaeltachta agus an comhlacht mar tá an comhlacht tiomanta don teanga. Bhí mé ann cúpla uair nuair a...

Select Committee on the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Irish Speaking Community: Bille na dTeangacha Oifigiúla (Leasú), 2019: Céim an Choiste (Atógáil) (16 Apr 2021)

Joe McHugh: Tá an ceart ag na Teachtaí na rudaí seo a ardú ach tá mé ag amharc ar an ráiteas a seoladh amach ón gcomhlacht. Tharla botún agus tá ráiteas curtha amach agus eisithe anois ag an gcomhlacht agus díomá air maidir leis an litir a d’eisigh sé níos luaithe. Tá sé sin sa ráiteas anois. Tá...

Select Committee on the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Irish Speaking Community: Bille na dTeangacha Oifigiúla (Leasú), 2019: Céim an Choiste (Atógáil) (16 Apr 2021)

Joe McHugh: Glacaim le spiorad an mholta sin. B'fhéidir go mbeidh seans ag an Aire Stáit féachaint air agus teacht ar ais chugainn. B'fhéidir go mbeidh deis ann ó thaobh an mholta. Aontaím leis an Teachta.

Select Committee on the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Irish Speaking Community: Bille na dTeangacha Oifigiúla (Leasú), 2019: Céim an Choiste (Atógáil) (16 Apr 2021)

Joe McHugh: Aontaím le spiorad na leasuithe seo agus dá mbeadh an tAire Stáit in áit difriúil, b'fhéidir go mbeadh sé ag lorg níos mó solúbthachta leo. Muna bhfuil sé ábalta na leasuithe a ghlacadh b'fhéidir go dtiocfaidh sé ar ais mar gheall orthu ar an gcéad Chéim eile. Chomh maith leis sin, aontaím leis an Teachta...

Select Committee on the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Irish Speaking Community: Bille na dTeangacha Oifigiúla (Leasú), 2019: Céim an Choiste (Atógáil) (16 Apr 2021)

Joe McHugh: Tugaim aitheantas don Aire Stáit faoi choinne a thiomantais agus faoi choinne na sároibre atá déanta aige san am gairid ina bhfuil sé sa ról. Tugaim aitheantas fosta don iarAire Stáit, an Seanadóir Kyne, faoi choinne na hoibre a rinne sé roimhe seo. Tá na hoifigigh sa Roinn Turasóireachta, Cultúir, Ealaíon, Gaeltachta,...

Joe McHugh: Tá leithscéalta faighte againn ó Teachtaí Harkin agus Calleary. We have received apologies from Deputies Harkin and Calleary. This is a very important session on EU industrial policy priorities, including vaccine production and digital transformation. On behalf of the committee, I welcome Mr. Thierry Breton, Commissioner for the Internal Market, European Commission....

Joint Oireachtas Committee on European Union Affairs: EU Industrial Policy Priorities, including Vaccine Production and Digital Transformation: Discussion with Commissioner Thierry Breton (20 Apr 2021)

Joe McHugh: Perhaps he could come back with a written response to the second question because I want to allow other members to ask questions about digital issues.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on European Union Affairs: EU Industrial Policy Priorities, including Vaccine Production and Digital Transformation: Discussion with Commissioner Thierry Breton (20 Apr 2021)

Joe McHugh: That is no problem. I thank the Commissioner for his very detailed response to Deputy Howlin. The Commissioner mentioned the stark failure of AstraZeneca to meet its commitments to the European Union. I welcome his comments during the week that future orders should look to the companies that have been successful and that have stood by their contracts. Much credit must go to Pfizer BioNTech...
