Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Recent Cost-of-Living Measures: Discussion (11 May 2022)

Patricia Ryan: I thank the guests and apologise that I missed the beginning of the meeting. I was in a meeting and in the Chamber as well. I have a question I encountered through a constituent this week. It concerns fuel costs, as well as consequent delivery costs and inflation on goods. The gentleman in question was a haulier who wished to avail of the diesel rebate scheme. He has a number of...

Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Recent Cost-of-Living Measures: Discussion (11 May 2022)

Patricia Ryan: The tank they use does not take the full amount of diesel required for the scheme on a regular fill. We need to address the issue. If they get 8,000 l of fuel per week over five deliveries and pay by credit card, they do not qualify for the scheme. However, if they buy 8,000 l in four deliveries, they do. That is the difficulty.

National Maternity Services: Motion [Private Members] (17 May 2022)

Patricia Ryan: Over the last week there has been a lot of whitewashing. Ministers and backbenchers who previously had their doubts had those doubts swept away by a letter that contained no guarantee that the full range of health options for women would ever be safeguarded. Maybe written on that page was a coded message not to rock the boat, to turn a blind eye to women's rights and to keep their noses...
