Vote 31 - Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport (Supplementary) (27 Nov 2012) Dessie Ellis: I thank the Minister of State for his input. Following the tragedy at the National Aquatic Centre, the centre was closed. How much revenue was lost as a result of that closure? Considerable money seems to be made up in different areas. The transport area seems to be hit very hard with many projects delayed, which is of concern. There have been delays in the railway order for Luas...

Vote 31 - Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport (Supplementary) (27 Nov 2012) Dessie Ellis: One aspect that worried me when I looked at these statistics was how the Government is making savings in the road safety area regarding the programme of roadside breath testing for alcohol. I do not know what way that is made up. It seems very worrying that we are saving money in programmes that are fighting life threatening situations.

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport and Communications: NRA and RPA: Discussion with Chairman Designate (28 Nov 2012)
Dessie Ellis: I thank Mr. O'Rourke for his presentation. I am not sure how people are nominated for positions of this nature but on the evidence of what he said, Mr. O'Rourke's CV is extremely impressive. Merging the NRA and the RPA is going to present a major challenge. Will this merger result in job losses? What will be the new organisation's main projects? The north-west link is probably the only...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport and Communications: Wicklow Port Company: Discussion with Chairman Designate (28 Nov 2012)
Dessie Ellis: I thank Mr. Newsome for his presentation. I am glad to see a local person running such a company because there is more of a vested interest given that the person is a local and his qualifications are very good. Also, he has much experience in the job. In the present economic climate the issue is how to generate more business in the port. He mentioned some of what is being done in terms of...

- Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: Pyrite Remediation Programme (4 Dec 2012)
Dessie Ellis: It is disappointing we have not yet had word back from the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government, Deputy Phil Hogan, given that he has twice indicated to us that he has given the industry a deadline to produce a solution to the pyrite problem. He stated previously that he was considering making requests for funding remediation measures in the houses in question. The...
- Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: Pyrite Remediation Programme (4 Dec 2012)
Dessie Ellis: Regarding the resolution board, it is important that there be a mechanism for judging the cost of the remediation works. It will vary and we have heard figures from €50,000 to €80,000. Local authority housing has the same problem. While there is a mechanism to get money from the Department for such housing, would it not make sense to include local authority housing in this...
