Written Answers — Department of Health: Garda Vetting Applications (12 Feb 2013)

James Reilly: Garda vetting of relevant health service staff has my full support. While Garda vetting is a matter for employers in the first instance, I am not aware of excessive delays in relation to the vetting of potential staff members. It is the case that the vetting of potential staff can extend the duration of the appointment process, particularly at times when a significant volume of clearances...

This will of course require detailed consideration and further consultation and I am developing proposals for Government on this matter. James Reilly: The Government has decided that the numbers employed across the public service must be reduced in order to meet its fiscal and budgetary targets.
