Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Youth Services (2 Jun 2022)

David Stanton: 37. To ask the Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth if his Department has, or plans to introduce, a funding scheme to support youth clubs and organisations with the purchase of minibuses to facilitate youth activities; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28356/22]

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Youth Services (2 Jun 2022)

David Stanton: This has to do with youth services. I realise the great work going on in this regard and the funding the Minister has made available, but one of the issues youth services have raised with me is the need to have minibuses to bring young people from A to B. Is there any funding stream that could be used to assist with something like this?

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Youth Services (2 Jun 2022)

David Stanton: I support what the Minister is saying. Many school buses are used during the day by schools and in the evening by youth services. Maybe synergies could be considered in this regard. When I was a Minister of State, I was involved with the youth justice strategy, which referred to integrating services and maximising the benefits, as the Minister has said. I support him in the work he is...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Energy Policy (2 Jun 2022)

David Stanton: I am a big supporter of green hydrogen, off-shore wind, biomass and so on. The faster we can move in that direction, the better. I also support Deputy Bríd Smith in that we should not burn anymore LNG or fossil fuels; rather we should be reducing them. However, we are dependent on a pipeline from Moffat. The Minister, Deputy McGrath, told me earlier this week that there is a...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Defence: Women, Peace and Security: Engagement with the Irish Consortium on Gender Based Violence (24 May 2022)

David Stanton: I thank the Chairman for allowing me to contribute. I welcome our guests. I am sorry I am not in the room with them, but I have another meeting to attend straight after I speak. A number of years ago, I was honoured to deliver the statement by Ireland at the 63rd session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women, CSW, as well as the session prior to that. I join our guests in...

To ask the Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment further to Parliamentary Question No. 327 of 26 April 2022, if the Government Policy Statement on importing fracked gas also precludes LNG imports from non-fracked sources; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28006/22]

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: General Scheme of the Personal Injuries Resolution Board Bill 2022: Discussion (Resumed) (25 May 2022)

David Stanton: I thank our guests for their presentation. I just have a few questions. On page 5 of Mr. Boland's presentation there are two graphs that indicate the portion of injury claimants who settled through each settlement channel from 2015 to 2019. The percentage of claimants who chose litigation is quite high compared to the percentage who took the PIAB route, which is quite low. From the other...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: General Scheme of the Personal Injuries Resolution Board Bill 2022: Discussion (Resumed) (25 May 2022)

David Stanton: It seems that people do not realise they are better off sticking with PIAB. Are they being advised, in Mr. Boland’s view, to go down the litigation route? Will this legislation before us do anything to change that? What more can be done to encourage people to stick with PIAB?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: General Scheme of the Personal Injuries Resolution Board Bill 2022: Discussion (Resumed) (25 May 2022)

David Stanton: I want to follow up on the issue of InsuranceLink. Could Mr. Boland explain, for the benefit of people who are watching this today, what InsuranceLink is and why he wants it transferred to PIAB, or PIRB as it will be? How would that work? What would the advantages of that be? I will leave it at that for the moment. Could he explain to people what is involved here?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: General Scheme of the Personal Injuries Resolution Board Bill 2022: Discussion (Resumed) (25 May 2022)

David Stanton: I note on the InsuranceLink site that there is a statement which states that “the cost of falsified, exaggerated and-or duplicated claims in Ireland has been estimated to be in excess of €100 million annually, which ends up being paid by honest citizens”. There are therefore huge issues. We are looking at the proposal under head 24, that the alliance calls on the...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: General Scheme of the Personal Injuries Resolution Board Bill 2022: Discussion (Resumed) (25 May 2022)

David Stanton: Am I right in saying that Insurance Ireland creates this database and that it is in existence because the claims keep coming in? Would Mr. Boland see it continuing in that regard? Would they continue to create it, gather the information and then pass it on to the PIRB? How would Mr. Boland see it working?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: General Scheme of the Personal Injuries Resolution Board Bill 2022: Discussion (Resumed) (25 May 2022)

David Stanton: Can I ask Ms Murdock about one particular point that came out in her statement? She said that Ireland has the fifth largest market for insurance in the EU and that it is the biggest exporter of insurance services. Could she expand on that and tell us how that is the case?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Defence: Update on Current Situation in Ukraine: Discussion (31 May 2022)

David Stanton: I welcome the ambassador and acknowledge her words in respect of the support communities are providing across the country. People are working hard and there is a lot going on in my area. Hubs have been set up where people from Ukraine can collect clothes and other essentials they may not be in a position to purchase. These were donated by local people and volunteers man these particular...
