Louise O'Reilly: It is. It is very hard. I was a union official for a couple of years, and in that period in a people's lives there are great differences. Some people absolutely skip into their 60s, are counting down the days and cannot wait to be out the door, and there are others who dread it. They dread the loss of routine and-----

Louise O'Reilly: I agree, which is why I brought forward legislation that would have dealt with the issue. Head 7 effectively allows an employer to dismiss a worker who has passed a mandatory retirement age clause without any repercussions. I believe that to be fundamentally unfair. Any such decision should be open to challenge. I ask the witnesses for their views on it.
