Broadband is inadequate and its lack is bad for the people, big business and small business in particular. Senator Callely, who referred to small businesses, should know the lack of broadband is a terrible problem for them in Ireland.

- Seanad: Order of Business (Resumed) (25 Oct 2007)
Shane Ross: The issue I wish to raise has been addressed already by Senator Coghlan and Senator O'Toole, that is, Aer Lingus, the DAA and Shannon. This has wider implications for all Members of the House. What Aer Lingus does is not our business; it is out in the private sector. Shane Ross: While I accept that, it reflects the poor service this House gets from Ministers. A Minister capable in his own remit is sent in and has to plead before us that the matter is not in his remit. The person taking the adjournment does not know the brief. It is not his fault, but he comes in to handle a brief about which he knows nothing. That is not a respectful way to behave towards this House.

Shane Ross: Senator Feeney addressed the issue that we tried to struggle with in the last session, the delicate balance between the freedom of the press and the privacy of the individual. Both points of view have a very strong case, and we certainly have not resolved it. It is important that we state that we abhor the intrusion on one's privacy by the press, for the obvious reason that we are all...
