- Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Road Projects (1 Feb 2022)
David Stanton: I thank the Ceann Comhairle's office for selecting this matter and the Minister of State, Deputy James Browne, for being here to respond to this issue regarding the N25 between Midleton and Carrigtwohill. This particular stretch of road is one of the busiest in the country. There are 30,000 vehicle movements per day on it. It is also extremely dangerous and the local authority is worried...
- Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Road Projects (1 Feb 2022)
David Stanton: I thank the Minister of State for his response. TII has written to me to tell me, "Due to limited funding available ... and the many competing demands for that funding, we are unable to provide a grant allocation to enable the project to advance in the current year", and further details on the grant allocation process can be found in the road allocation grants, which I have looked at. - Select Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Estimates for Public Services 2022
Vote 32 - Enterprise, Trade and Employment (Revised) (2 Feb 2022) David Stanton: I welcome the Minister and his officials to the meeting. I have a few questions. Covid supports have been extremely welcome for businesses. I have engaged with quite a number of businesses that have said they would have gone under without them. What is the plan to withdraw Covid supports in 2022? Will the enterprise agencies continue to support companies throughout 2022? Obviously,...
- Select Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Estimates for Public Services 2022
Vote 32 - Enterprise, Trade and Employment (Revised) (2 Feb 2022) David Stanton: I am very pleased to hear that the Balance for Better Business is going so well, meeting its targets and, in most cases, exceeding them. I put a lot of work into setting that up. I ask the Minister to pass on my congratulations and encouragement to the campaign to keep going. A small number of companies still do not have female directors and they need to be focused on and encouraged to...
- Select Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Estimates for Public Services 2022
Vote 32 - Enterprise, Trade and Employment (Revised) (2 Feb 2022) David Stanton: I thank the Minister for his responses, particularly on the last question. I would be interested in hearing what IDA Ireland has to say about it. I brought it up last week with Mr. Martin Shanahan. Not only is the road down there extremely dangerous but the site has been lying idle and growing weeds for 12 years, when it should be providing employment at a high level. I also thank the...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Defence: Russia's Foreign Policy and Security in Europe: Engagement with Ambassador of Russia (2 Feb 2022)
David Stanton: I join others in welcoming the ambassador. He is a very impressive diplomat. I have seen him in action before and he does his job well, so I congratulate him on that. I am from Cork and I know many of the fishermen he dealt with last week. We were very pleased the Russian Navy and the Irish fishers fleet would not be coming head to head in the Atlantic. That was a good outcome. When...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Defence: Russia's Foreign Policy and Security in Europe: Engagement with Ambassador of Russia (2 Feb 2022)
David Stanton: My question, which the Chair asked, is on the forced grounding of the Ryanair flight and the position of the reporter who has disappeared. We have heard nothing about that since. Perhaps the ambassador can fill us in. I am quite concerned about that activity. I am not sure if the man was charged with any crime. The forcing down of that aircraft was an extraordinarily rare event.
