- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Skills: Education Needs of Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Students: Discussion (23 May 2023)
Pauline O'Reilly: I apologise for rushing the Senator. I was under notice by Senators Malcolm Byrne and Daly that they had to run.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Skills: Education Needs of Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Students: Discussion (23 May 2023)
Pauline O'Reilly: I thank Mr. Geary. He absolutely has not been disloyal. Throughout his contributions, I could hear that he feels like he almost has to defend himself and his rights. As a solicitor, I would argue that he does not and that he has done the right thing. The clerk has also been warning me and this is why I have been cautious, which is also correct. We must ensure Mr. Geary is protected in...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Skills: Education Needs of Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Students: Discussion (23 May 2023)
Pauline O'Reilly: Yes. We are all genuinely indebted to Mr. Geary and everyone who brings a case in this way. Much of the progress that has happened has occurred through people bringing this kind of action. Mr. Geary is quite right in saying he should not have to do so, but because he has done it, other people now have more access and more progress will come as a consequence. I echo what my colleagues...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Skills: Education Needs of Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Students: Discussion (23 May 2023)
Pauline O'Reilly: I agree with that point. I have tried to get ISL interpreters myself for events and it has been incredibly difficult. There is a desire to do that, though, because we need to make things as accessible as possible. Mr. Geary's suggestion, therefore, could be a recommendation of this committee.

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Skills: Education Needs of Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Students: Discussion (23 May 2023)
Pauline O'Reilly: Exactly. We are not here to discuss that today. Thank you very much for your contribution. I would say to those watching that we have ISL interpreters who are providing simultaneous interpretation of the meeting from the broadcasting unit. I call Deputy Clarke.

Pauline O'Reilly: I thank Mr. Geary. We really appreciate his coming in and sharing his first-hand experiences. It has been invaluable.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Liquefied Natural Gas and Oil Prospecting: Discussion (30 May 2023)
Pauline O'Reilly: I thank Mr. Molnár for his contribution. He mentioned that timely policy measures led to the global gas markets balancing out. Are we not really looking at the policy measures we now take? LNG is unnecessary if there are sufficient energy efficiency standards and if we continue to invest in renewables but if we do not take those policy measures we may be looking at a different kind of...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Liquefied Natural Gas and Oil Prospecting: Discussion (30 May 2023)
Pauline O'Reilly: I thank Professor McMullin. I want to speak about demand management because often when we have this conversation it is about blackouts versus security of supply or security of electricity generation. We have never had that proper conversation that we have to live within a reality and within natural boundaries. We are constantly talking about protecting business and future investment. We...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Liquefied Natural Gas and Oil Prospecting: Discussion (30 May 2023)
Pauline O'Reilly: It is not just about future inward investment. It is also about what we are doing right now and that is the conversation. What I seek from the professor is a recommendation that we do engage in that communication because if there was concerted demand management then we would not be having a conversation on blackouts.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Liquefied Natural Gas and Oil Prospecting: Discussion (30 May 2023)
Pauline O'Reilly: We do talk about data centres. What I am talking about is the stuff that we are doing right now rather than future investment.

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Report of the Review of the Operation of the Health (Regulation of Termination of Pregnancy) Act 2018: Discussion (31 May 2023)
Pauline O'Reilly: I thank the witnesses and the clerk to the committee; I wrote to the committee asking to be here today. Ms O'Shea mentioned that some of the comments that have been made are a breach of promise to the electorate. Is it almost verging on a breach of the legislation itself? If you look at section 7, it states, "The Minister shall, not later than 3 years after the commencement of this...

Pauline O'Reilly: -----and we are now five years down the road. From a legal point of view, if we go much beyond this we are into the territory of breaching the Act itself.
