- Credit Union (Amendment) Bill 2022 [Seanad]: Second Stage (28 Feb 2023)
Joe Flaherty: As this is my first time speaking to the Minister of State in her new role, I congratulate her and wish her the best of luck. I welcome this Bill, which is the first significant legislation for the credit union sector in 12 years. It follows through on a commitment in the programme for Government to prioritise credit unions. I am reasonably happy that the Bill, in its current format,...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Forest Policy and Strategy (Resumed): Discussion (1 Mar 2023)
Joe Flaherty: I thank the speakers for attending and welcome their return. Much of the detail on what I wanted to go through has been given to Deputy Fitzmaurice, so I will not go over much of the old ground. I will address only a few of the issues. Joe Flaherty: Given the forestry premiums, one would imagine the sector would be very attractive to pension funds and investment houses. We are largely farmers here but take the point that the corporate world is standing back and has serious reservations. I would have expected Coillte to have more than the €10 million at this stage, the beginning of March.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Forest Policy and Strategy (Resumed): Discussion (1 Mar 2023)
Joe Flaherty: Twenty-five million is our money, though, so there is €10 million from the corporate side. My point is that there clearly is concern about this project.

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Forest Policy and Strategy (Resumed): Discussion (1 Mar 2023)
Joe Flaherty: That is all laudable. I am conscious of time. I will home in on one final point and allow the representatives to finish on that. I will give an agricultural or, at least, a horse analogy of someone selling shares in a racehorse who wants to get €200 million and has a five-year timeline to do so. If we factor in what Coillte has from the State, which is €25 million, it...
