Marc MacSharry: Indeed. On 27 February, the Taoiseach said in the Dáil that the cost of the national broadband scheme would be "many multiples" of what was originally anticipated. He indicated, as Mr. Griffin did in his opening statement, that he expected the decision would be made before Easter. The original indication in 2012 was that €355 million to €512 million would be the spread...

Marc MacSharry: I am almost out of time and I have two final questions. During the questioning Mr. Griffin can tease out what he is going to say. My final question arises from the debacle of the national children's hospital. Would he be prepared to give a ballpark figure for how many multiples the Taoiseach might have been talking about, notwithstanding that he cannot give us details of the tender or the...

Educational Supports for Children Experiencing Homelessness: Motion [Private Members] (3 Apr 2019)

Marc MacSharry: I am glad to have an opportunity to make a few points on this motion. I commend my colleagues who have introduced it. I particularly commend Deputy Thomas Byrne on his work over the years to highlight the impact of child homelessness on education. The work of the Children's Rights Alliance has been significant. It has produced a very good report and very good recommendations. There is no...

Marc MacSharry: 166. To ask the Minister for Health his plans to remove the BreastCheck unit from County Sligo in the near future; the reason this is the case; the reason patients based in the county are currently not being granted appointments in Sligo and are informed instead to select between Castlebar or Letterkenny; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (4 Apr 2019)

Marc MacSharry: Why does it need to be in private session?

Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (4 Apr 2019)

Marc MacSharry: I was out of the room for a second. I refer to the issue of incontinence wear, on which we heard from a family. I unofficially facilitated a meeting between the HSE, the family and the Brothers of Charity on the committee's behalf. That took place last Monday and I very much hope the situation has been resolved.

Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (4 Apr 2019)

Marc MacSharry: A meeting is scheduled for the day before the local and European elections. I am open-minded, but what sort of attendance can we expect? Will the Dáil be sitting that week?

Public Accounts Committee: 2017 Annual Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts
Vote 24 - Justice and Equality
(4 Apr 2019)

Marc MacSharry: I will indicate for a second round if I can. I do not have many questions specific to the Vote we are considering this morning so I will be going a little bit off the reservation after my initial questions. Like Deputy Connolly, I congratulate the Department on a clear audit opinion and offer continued good wishes to the new team at its helm. I said in private session that I did not have a...

Public Accounts Committee: 2017 Annual Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts
Vote 24 - Justice and Equality
(4 Apr 2019)

Marc MacSharry: Can I ask if the Department might consider what other options are available? That methodology is flawed and probably feeds what can sometimes be accused of being racism, although I do not believe it to be racism, where smaller locations are anticipating that a former hotel or other large building might contribute to their recovery in terms of tourism in the future. We need to prioritise...
