Select Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Estimates for Public Services 2017
Vote 30 - Agriculture, Food and the Marine (Supplementary)
(28 Nov 2017)

Michael Creed: I am advised that approximately half of the commonage management plans have been submitted to date. Payments will issue in these cases and in all other cases as commonage management plans are commenced on the system. My understanding, which is subject to correction, is that this process can be commenced but not completed. In some cases, there might be a degree of work to be done to...

Select Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Estimates for Public Services 2017
Vote 30 - Agriculture, Food and the Marine (Supplementary)
(28 Nov 2017)

Michael Creed: I thank Deputy Penrose. On the recruitment and savings element, my own take is that the embargo on recruitment for a number of years meant the age profile increased significantly. We are now trying to recruit but we are also losing quite rapidly at the other end with people going to retirement early and just because they have reached the age. We are running to stand still. We are just...

Select Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Estimates for Public Services 2017
Vote 30 - Agriculture, Food and the Marine (Supplementary)
(28 Nov 2017)

Michael Creed: They really have a story to tell and a challenge to meet. They are being resourced to do it. They are highly motivated people. The matter of staff recruitment and retention is inexorably tied up with public sector pay and it would be very difficult to specifically ring-fence this for Bord Bia when there is a host of other sectors in the economy seeking higher than the average pay...

Michael Creed: I am aware of the matter and I know it has arisen with some of the co-ops in the dairy sector in the Deputy's region. It is not as easy solve it as it is to articulate the problem.

Michael Creed: In July this year, I launched the second annual progress report on Food Wise 2025: Steps to Success 2017. As regards reviewing the strategy, it is...

Written Answers — Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Agrifood Sector (29 Nov 2017)

Michael Creed: I believe that supporting lower-cost, flexible finance is a key Government response to Brexit. The very successful “Agriculture Cashflow Loan Scheme” has provided a template for such schemes, including the new “Brexit Loan Scheme”, which makes up to €300 million of affordable, flexible financing available to Irish businesses that are either currently...

Michael Creed: I can confirm that my Department automatically applied the provisions of art 40.5 of Council Regulation 1782/03 to all farmers whose sheep numbers were reduced during the reference period 2000-2002 by virtue of their participation in an Agri Environment Scheme. Written Answers — Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Dairy Sector (29 Nov 2017)

Michael Creed: Following a challenging period, the dairy sector has experienced positive trends this year in terms of raw milk and specific commodity prices, particularly for butter. I am confident that, as market demand for safe, sustainable, high quality dairy products in expanding global markets increases, the Irish dairy sector, from the farm gate to the further reaches of the supply chain, will...
