Joint Committee On Health: Addiction Services: Discussion (14 Jun 2022)

Frances Black: It deals with all family members. I will make one other point, and I probably should not do this but I have known Jackie and Gwen a long time. They are sisters. It is their passion around the impact on families that drives this. It would not survive otherwise. The work they have done in helping thousands of people is off the Richter scale and it is their passion that drives it.

Joint Committee On Health: Addiction Services: Discussion (14 Jun 2022)

Frances Black: The funding needs to come now. The organisation has been evaluated. The work being done is phenomenal. I wanted to say that because €7,500 is a pittance. It is wrong.

Frances Black: Is the Deputy happy with the answer?

Joint Committee On Health: Addiction Services: Discussion (14 Jun 2022)

Frances Black: That is the top addiction for the Tabor Group.

Joint Committee On Health: Addiction Services: Discussion (14 Jun 2022)

Frances Black: In many services, particularly addiction services and family addiction services, there is an issue in respect of burnout among staff. I suspect it can be quite stressful. It is hard work. I ask our witnesses to address the supports that are needed. Do they get enough support in that area?

Joint Committee On Health: Addiction Services: Discussion (14 Jun 2022)

Frances Black: Is there a waiting list? If a person went to Tabor Lodge today, would he or she go straight in? How does the process work? How long does a person have to wait?

Joint Committee On Health: Addiction Services: Discussion (14 Jun 2022)

Frances Black: I will come to the Family Addiction Support Network but I have a final question for the Tabor Group. What would be on the wish list that would make things perfect and where the witnesses would not have to wake up to any kind of anxiety around funding? What would make things great for the organisation? Is it about expanding services or ensuring there is enough funding for the heating bill?...

Joint Committee On Health: Addiction Services: Discussion (14 Jun 2022)

Frances Black: I will ask the same question of the other group. What would be the perfect scenario for it? I ask that question and I mean a couple of things. I am referring to specifically within its area of the north east but I am also talking about the position nationally and in general around families. What would the group like to see if it had a magic wand?

Joint Committee On Health: Addiction Services: Discussion (14 Jun 2022)

Frances Black: I cannot thank our guests enough for coming in. I apologise for having to cancel the meeting planned a few weeks ago. I worked very closely with the Family Addiction Support Network and I will continue to do so. I think you are all wonderful. I visited Tabor Lodge and was blown away by everything you do down there and by its recovery process. I totally agree with our guests on having all...

Seanad: Planning and Development (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill 2022: Report and Final Stages (28 Jun 2022)

Frances Black: Amendment No. 4 seeks to add a condition to the provision in the Bill that a person who applies for substitute consent in respect of a development of land can also apply for permission for substitute consent for adjoining land. The condition our amendment would add is that the development on adjoining land must be for a purpose related to the original development. This is to ensure that...

Seanad: Planning and Development (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill 2022: Report and Final Stages (28 Jun 2022)

Frances Black: This seeks to add the condition that, where a person applies for substitute consent for the land subject to the application, the development cannot have a commercial value of more than €5.48 million. This is to stop scenarios where large development projects are rammed through the planning process and are not subject to strict criteria. Amendment No. 7 is similar, in that it seeks to...
