Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: General Oversight of EirGrid: Discussion (30 Jan 2024)

Timmy Dooley: In essence, therefore, the CRU is not getting it right and is not delivering.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: General Oversight of EirGrid: Discussion (30 Jan 2024)

Timmy Dooley: I call Senator Boylan. I apologise that I provided latitude there. I will allow the Senator the same for sure.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: General Oversight of EirGrid: Discussion (30 Jan 2024)

Timmy Dooley: I will send the invoice later.

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (31 Jan 2024)

Timmy Dooley: I want to echo the sentiments expressed by Senator McDowell. Quite frankly, I was taken aback yesterday by the comments that were made by Deputy McDonald. I think Michelle O'Neill showed great insight and understanding of the situation, but the minute Deputy McDonald was asked about it, it was all about Sinn Féin and about what a great opportunity this would be for Sinn Féin,...

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (14 Feb 2024)

Timmy Dooley: Much like others, I want to be associated with remarks in relation to the actions that need to be taken to address the crisis that has unfolded in the Gaza Strip. I had an opportunity to reflect on that yesterday. I again ask the Leader to try to arrange a debate in this House, if possible, at the earliest possible opportunity to discuss migration and related issues. I raised this issue...

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (13 Feb 2024)

Timmy Dooley: I welcome the comments of the Tánaiste and a number of Ministers since yesterday evening and their forthright assessment of the current activities of the Israeli Government and the Israeli Defense Forces in the continued attack on the Gaza strip, particularly the ground offensive now under way in the Rafah region. The clear comments from the Tánaiste on behalf of the Government...

Seanad: Gas (Amendment) Bill 2023: Second Stage (13 Feb 2024)

Timmy Dooley: I welcome the Minister of State and thank him for bringing the Bill to the House. It is technical in nature, a tidying-up exercise resulting from a change in policy in how we manage our water systems. It brings to an end the sorry debacle that was the initial effort at charging for water. There are different views as to how that should have happened and I do not think we will ever reach a...

Seanad: Gas (Amendment) Bill 2023: Second Stage (13 Feb 2024)

Timmy Dooley: Next Tuesday.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Review of Climate Action Plan 2023: Minister for Public Expenditure, NDP Delivery and Reform (15 Feb 2024)

Timmy Dooley: I welcome and thank the Minister for his presentation. For far too long the debate around climate change has been one that has been couched in negative language; it is around what we must stop doing, what we cannot do anymore and the burden of change that is put on us. I like to look at it a bit differently, insofar as one can, in recognising the opportunities that exist from climate...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Review of Climate Action Plan 2023: Minister for Public Expenditure, NDP Delivery and Reform (15 Feb 2024)

Timmy Dooley: A transition-----

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Review of Climate Action Plan 2023: Minister for Public Expenditure, NDP Delivery and Reform (15 Feb 2024)

Timmy Dooley: Yes.

Joint Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport And Media: Transparency of RTÉ Expenditure of Public Funds and Governance Issues: Discussion (Resumed) (14 Feb 2024)

Timmy Dooley: I thank everybody for the presentation. It is no harm every now and again to remind ourselves, notwithstanding how drastically wrong things went at RTÉ and what a catastrophe it has been, that nobody personally benefited. People made decisions for whatever reason. As many of the main actors are not here, it is hard to get to the motivation but nobody benefited personally from it....

Joint Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport And Media: Transparency of RTÉ Expenditure of Public Funds and Governance Issues: Discussion (Resumed) (14 Feb 2024)

Timmy Dooley: My colleague Senator Warfield spoke about the funding model and he threw around certain accusations against the Government. That is fair enough. That is the politics of it. The model I have long-believed is the way forward is a household charge. I shared that in a paper we devised a number of years ago and that it should be collected by Revenue. I have a concern at the notion of it...

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (20 Feb 2024)

Timmy Dooley: I ask the Deputy Leader at the earliest opportunity to arrange a debate in the House with the Minister for Education, Deputy Foley, about Circular 0002/2024, which was issued recently. I spoke to a number of principals in east Clare yesterday evening who made clear to me that this will impact significantly on the work they do as principals. As a result of this circular, they see a further...

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (27 Feb 2024)

Timmy Dooley: I welcome and support the call by Senator Gavan to have a conversation about the future of Ireland and of a united Ireland in light of the positive developments that have taken place. Maybe we will get a chance on that occasion to discuss the split that is clearly taking place with Sinn Féin south of the Border where, on one hand, some of its representatives in this House have supported...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: General Scheme of the Gas Safety (Amendment) Bill 2023: Discussion (27 Feb 2024)

Timmy Dooley: I thank Mr. Gannon for the presentation. He stated that there are 65 networks with up to 1,000 units. What is the breakdown of that? I thought that this was to address those that had fewer than ten units in the network. If they were all at ten units, that would be 650 units.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: General Scheme of the Gas Safety (Amendment) Bill 2023: Discussion (27 Feb 2024)

Timmy Dooley: Fewer than ten networks.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: General Scheme of the Gas Safety (Amendment) Bill 2023: Discussion (27 Feb 2024)

Timmy Dooley: Okay, that is clear. I wish to probe a bit around the role and responsibility of the main providers. To focus on the domestic aspect, there are people, myself included, who have an LPG tank at the back of the house. I live in a housing estate and there is a cluster of four or five houses that are in close proximity to my tank. I have concerns with the model one deals with whereby either...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: General Scheme of the Gas Safety (Amendment) Bill 2023: Discussion (27 Feb 2024)

Timmy Dooley: I accept that.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: General Scheme of the Gas Safety (Amendment) Bill 2023: Discussion (27 Feb 2024)

Timmy Dooley: I understand the infrastructure piece but I refer to putting the burden of responsibility to address any issues that arise on the entity that provides it. The CRU has some oversight on such entities. Does Ms Joyce feel the CRU has enough oversight or does she believe legislation should be broadened to put a responsibility on the company that delivers the gas to identify potential risks?
