- Tribunals of Inquiry (11 May 2010)
Enda Kenny: Serious fees are being paid to legal personnel. My understanding is that the Attorney General advised the tribunal of the legality of the change of ownership in respect of the consortium bidding for the licence. It has come to light only recently that this was a fact. How could legal personnel paid at premium rates on a daily basis make a fundamental error such as that, and the legal...
- Tribunals of Inquiry (11 May 2010)
Enda Kenny: Last week a woman who is the mother of two intellectually challenged children called to see me. Her husband did not make a full declaration in respect of social welfare and now the Department wants â¬8,000 back from him immediately.
- Tribunals of Inquiry (11 May 2010)
Enda Kenny: I will make my point. I refer to the time of the previous Attorney General. There was what is known as an error of transcription in respect of legal fees paid to senior counsel. These were determined at â¬2,250 but the error of transcription stated â¬2,500. There was no pay back because it was deemed it would be appropriate, as an exceptional measure, to leave it the way it was. I...
- Tribunals of Inquiry (11 May 2010)
Enda Kenny: ------we have no problem signing cheques of whatever description for banks. In the case of this tribunal, in respect of the matter I raised before with him whereby there was an overpayment of more than â¬1 million, is it intended that will be followed and paid back?
- Leaders' Questions (11 May 2010)
Enda Kenny: Last weekend, the EU finance ministers put together a package of â¬750 billion for the relief of distressed eurozone economies. I am disappointed that the Dáil did not have an opportunity to discuss the matter, as allowed under the Lisbon treaty, in advance of its being considered by the EU ministers. While the new mechanism is necessary, it is insufficient in so far as it will not deal...
- Leaders' Questions (11 May 2010)
Enda Kenny: The Taoiseach can add the â¬20 billion he put into the banks to all the figures he mentioned. I asked why the â¬100 million enterprise stabilisation fund was cut by â¬22 million when it was designed specifically to get employers and businesses that were trading over this economic crisis. In both 2008 and 2009 Deputies Bruton and Varadkar, on behalf of the Fine Gael Party, put forward a...
- Leaders' Questions (11 May 2010)
Enda Kenny: In the interests of taking some of the 430,000 people on the live register off the dole and encouraging employers to avail of this fund, which the Minister for Finance announced in this Budget Statement last December, will the Taoiseach give a commitment that inside one month he will stand by the Government's word and ensure the â¬36 million PRSI holiday for employers who take on new...
- Leaders' Questions (11 May 2010)
Enda Kenny: When will it be launched? Will it be inside a month?
- Order of Business (11 May 2010)
Enda Kenny: Will the Taoiseach consider providing an opportunity some time next week for a discussion on the â¬750 billion fund agreed last week by the Ministers of the eurozone countries, and Ireland's proposal to add to this by dealing with competitiveness, investment and growth, so that we can present a clear picture of what we are doing to other countries? Last Thursday, I raised certain questions...

- Written Answers — Higher Education Grants: Higher Education Grants (11 May 2010)
Enda Kenny: Question 363: To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Education and Skills if her Department offers a funding scheme in which a disabled person (details supplied) in County Mayo may pursue a third-level course with an international correspondence school on a part-time basis from home; if her attention has been drawn to any other funding scheme that may be appropriate in this situation; her...
- Leaders' Questions. (12 May 2010)
Enda Kenny: First, I should congratulate the new British Prime Minister, David Cameron, and his deputy, Nick Clegg, on forming a government in Britain and I wish them the best of luck in their onerous duties. I pay tribute to the departed Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, particularly for his interest in Northern Ireland and for the work he did there. For years, Deputy Bruton, in particular, has pointed out...
- Leaders' Questions. (12 May 2010)
Enda Kenny: That is the reply of a desperate man who is throwing bait that he expects somebody to rise to but I will not do that. The Taoiseach, Deputy Cowen, was Minister for Finance and he is now Head of Government. He has brought our country to an excessive deficit position through gross mismanagement of our economy and a complete inability to have the courage to debate issues in the House,...
- Leaders' Questions. (12 May 2010)
Enda Kenny: -----priorities for that budget, where moneys might be shifted from one Vote to another depending on agreement on those priorities and leave us in control of our own economic affairs, determining what our budget should be and deciding what should be the impact on people. Can I take it that the Taoiseach does not agree with proposals that would diminish the extent and strength of our...
- Departmental Staff (12 May 2010)
Enda Kenny: Question 1: To ask the Taoiseach Taoiseach the cost of the Communications Unit in his Department in February 2010; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12956/10]
- Departmental Staff (12 May 2010)
Enda Kenny: We have raised these questions on previous occasions. As I understand it, the Departments were to cease contracts for independent news monitoring services on a daily basis. From looking at the costs, can the Taoiseach confirm this has actually happened and that the communications unit now supplies all the news monitoring information to Departments, thereby creating a saving overall?
- Departmental Staff (12 May 2010)
Enda Kenny: I take the Taoiseach's point about national newspapers and national news. Last week CIE announced that the DART underground project would be delayed until 2018. This was because of planning delays, even though a planning application has not been lodged. Somebody forgot to tell the Minister for Transport, however. Will the Taoiseach say whether the communications unit monitors...

Enda Kenny: This issue was on the national news.
