Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Artificial Intelligence in the Workplace: Discussion (21 Jun 2023)

Louise O'Reilly: I thank our guests for the information they have given thus far. This is one of the most important hearings we have had. It is an area where people tend to roll their eyes and say this is happening and there is little we can do about it. I do not think that is the case. I welcome the words from Dr. Bambrick and it is important we say again that workers are not looking to turn back the...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Artificial Intelligence in the Workplace: Discussion (21 Jun 2023)

Louise O'Reilly: It does. I looked at the make-up of the GovTech board and its responsibility for what will be the model of best practice for employers. If that falls short, it is a serious problem. Would either of our other guests like to comment on that?

Louise O'Reilly: I agree. The problem is this has been established and they are not. Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Artificial Intelligence in the Workplace: Discussion (21 Jun 2023)

Louise O'Reilly: That is the thing that people are concerned about. I know my time is up and will finish on this. The unfortunate thing is that often when one confronts this, the answer is that it is huge, complicated and moving faster than the human brain. At some point, we have to be able to say, "Stop". If it takes time, it takes time, and if it needs to be done slowly, I think we as legislators have a...
