- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Business of Joint Committee (27 Feb 2019)
Robert Troy: I have no problem with that. I was just seeking clarity.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Business of Joint Committee (27 Feb 2019)
Robert Troy: It is unusual. Previously, when we sought to have the Minister attend and there was a clash in his diary, he would say that he would be available on such a day. This is the first time he has not indicated an alternative date. He did not actually say there was a clash in the diary, he referred to the pressure of work and his busy schedule. I would place a bet that if one went to the...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Rural Taxis and Rural Transport Programme: Discussion (27 Feb 2019)
Robert Troy: I welcome our guests and thank them for the time and effort they have put into making the submissions. The one positive thing that has emanated in recent months from the cut proposals and suggestions of new measures to be introduced is that for the first time in a long time we have rural transport fairly high on the political agenda. There is now an acknowledgement on the part of Government...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Local Link and Rural Transport Programme: National Transport Authority (27 Feb 2019)
Robert Troy: I thank the Chairman and apologise to the guests as I was caught elsewhere. I welcome the presence of the NTA representatives today. I acknowledge that they have come proposing solutions which is not always the case when groups come before the committee. The critical matter here is the timeframe for implementation and whether the scheme will be backed up with adequate resources. Last...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Local Link and Rural Transport Programme: National Transport Authority (27 Feb 2019)
Robert Troy: With respect, we all have supplementary questions to ask.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Local Link and Rural Transport Programme: National Transport Authority (27 Feb 2019)
Robert Troy: I welcome the clarification we have received. I am concerned, however, that the delegates have not yet identified a specific budget for the pilot. They have only said they are going to set aside the necessary resources. They do not know specifically how much grant aid they are going to give to the community operator and how much will go towards the insurance of the particular operators....
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Local Link and Rural Transport Programme: National Transport Authority (27 Feb 2019)
Robert Troy: Yes, initially. That is what a pilot means. At best, if it is up and running by September and if the NTA decides to run the same pilot it ran on the Local Link night-time service for nine months, that will bring it into the following April or May, after which the NTA will perhaps seek additional resources to roll it out further. There are communities in rural Ireland that will not see...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Local Link and Rural Transport Programme: National Transport Authority (27 Feb 2019)
Robert Troy: How many additional staff will there be?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Local Link and Rural Transport Programme: National Transport Authority (27 Feb 2019)
Robert Troy: What will that bring the NTA's complement to?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Local Link and Rural Transport Programme: National Transport Authority (27 Feb 2019)
Robert Troy: It probably stands at around 94 and will increase to about 120.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Local Link and Rural Transport Programme: National Transport Authority (27 Feb 2019)
Robert Troy: We will raise rural transport with the Minister when he appears before the committee to discuss the Estimates. It will be a good opportunity to put a case to him that the NTA needs additional funding. Is it fair to say it would like additional funding to roll out this pilot?
- Written Answers — Department of Justice and Equality: Closed-Circuit Television Systems (28 Feb 2019)
Robert Troy: 104. To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality if research has been carried out into the possibility of allowing county councils to become data controllers for community CCTV schemes nationally; and his views on whether this would resolve issues surrounding data protection which is limiting the involvement of a number of communities. - Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Flood Relief Schemes Funding (5 Mar 2019)
Robert Troy: As a result of the vast overruns in the cost of building the children's hospital, the Minister himself confirmed at an Oireachtas committee last month that he would be cutting €3 million from his departmental budget in respect of flood defences. What schemes that are currently ready to go will now not proceed as a result of this cut?
- Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Flood Relief Schemes Funding (5 Mar 2019)
Robert Troy: I heard that reply earlier and it does not answer the question I have asked. I am asking specifically about schemes that are ready to proceed. The Minister of State knows this area better than I do and he will know that the flood defence mechanisms in Athlone have been divided into eight cells. Of those eight cells, seven have already been approved for planning. The last cell has not yet...
- Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Flood Relief Schemes Funding (5 Mar 2019)
Robert Troy: Nobody is playing politics. I acknowledged the Minister of State's commitment to the area and his superior knowledge on this matter. I am simply giving him an opportunity to speak on the record of the House about various flood schemes. The Minister of State said at a committee meeting that he did not want to mislead anyone and that there would be €3 million in cuts. He said that...
