Hildegarde Naughton: On a point of order, if there was a way to invite further guests, perhaps that would be a more appropriate way to spend time talking about some of the issues through invitees that Senator Mullen would like to appear before the committee.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on the Eighth Amendment of the Constitution: Business of Joint Committee (22 Nov 2017)

Hildegarde Naughton: I will only say ten words. If Senator Mullen and Deputy Mattie McGrath would like to bring in witnesses, they should please bring them in. It is the best way to deal with this.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on the Eighth Amendment of the Constitution: Termination in Cases of Foetal Abnormality: One Day More (Resumed) (22 Nov 2017)

Hildegarde Naughton: My question follows on from previous questions. I thank the witness for being here. She has spoken very articulately and it is important that the committee hears her viewpoint. Ms McDermott made the point that women need support. We are all agreed that we need to do more in this country to improve our pathways to care for women when dealing with a crisis pregnancy, be it fatal foetal...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on the Eighth Amendment of the Constitution: Termination in Cases of Foetal Abnormality: One Day More (Resumed) (22 Nov 2017)

Hildegarde Naughton: I agree with that but my question relates to the case where a woman felt she had gone through everything, discussed it, received all the counselling and supports that were there for her and felt that at the end of the day, she could not continue in the case of a fatal foetal abnormality. Ms McDermott has expressed her point. I do not want to delay it. I think I have got the answer.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on the Eighth Amendment of the Constitution: Obstetric Medicine in the Netherlands: Professor Sjef Gevers and Professor Eva Pajkrt, University of Amsterdam (23 Nov 2017)

Hildegarde Naughton: I thank Professor Pajkrt and Professor Gevers for their presentations. I would like to follow up on Senator Ruane's questions about better sex education and the importance of contraception awareness. Do the witnesses believe that there have been reductions in the numbers of teenage pregnancies and teenage abortions in the Netherlands? I note that the majority of those who seek abortions...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on the Eighth Amendment of the Constitution: Obstetric Medicine in the Netherlands: Professor Sjef Gevers and Professor Eva Pajkrt, University of Amsterdam (23 Nov 2017)

Hildegarde Naughton: Many of my questions have been answered but I have just one more question. I thank Professor Pajkrt for her very comprehensive presentation today. While I know the professor does not have data on the five-day waiting period, if an Irish woman travels to the Netherlands for an abortion, how would the five-day waiting period work for her if she had only one or two days?

We will then have a five minute break to allow the witnesses to leave the room and then resume in private session. Next we will have another five minute break to allow a new witness to take...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment: Post Office Network: Discussion (Resumed) (28 Nov 2017)

Hildegarde Naughton: I thank Ms Cooley very much. I might start with a few questions and then bring in the Deputies and Senators. If anyone wants to come in on any particular question, just indicate to me. Mr. McRedmond stated that he wanted a post office within 15 km of every household in rural areas and 3 km in urban areas, and a post office in every town with a population in excess of 500 inhabitants....
