Aodhán Ó Ríordáin: On amendment No. 8, the Minister agrees fully that GSOC should have access to PULSE for the purposes of its investigations. However, I can assure Senators that at this stage, it is an aspect of co-operation that is being fully catered for operationally. While the Minister is aware that this is an area that has given rise to difficulties for GSOC in the past, the commission has confirmed to...

Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht: Select Sub-Committee on Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht: Estimates for Public Services 2015
Vote 33 - Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht (Revised)
(3 Mar 2015)

Aodhán Ó Ríordáin: I wish to add to what the Minister said about local authorities. In Deputy McEntee's county of Meath, there was a major event during the 1916 Rising in Ashbourne. It is important that the commemorations are not seen to be Dublin focused and that every local authority is able to commemorate the activities that took place in Easter Week 1916. There were quite a number of insurrections, small...

Seanad: Redress for Women Resident in Certain Institutions Bill 2014: Committee Stage (4 Mar 2015)

Aodhán Ó Ríordáin: My responsibility and that of the Department is to implement fully the recommendations of Judge Quirke. I do not necessarily want to do this but there is a statement from JFM research, National Women's Council of Ireland, which sets out a list of things which are not in the Bill. Of the ten listed, Nos. 1, 3, 6, 7 and 9 flatly contradict the recommendations because they are provided for in...

In his report Judge Quirke was of the opinion that the women of the Magdalen laundries should be provided with access to a comprehensive suite of health services. Judge...

If there is confusion, unfortunately it is unnecessary confusion.
