- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Autism: Autism Policy: Discussion (Resumed) (18 Apr 2023)
Micheál Carrigy: We have had numerous parents' groups in here and they are getting no support from the State. I note that there is a lot of money there and there is a lot of work that could be done with it.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Autism: Autism Policy: Discussion (Resumed) (18 Apr 2023)
Micheál Carrigy: Does the society have a plan?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Autism: Autism Policy: Discussion (Resumed) (18 Apr 2023)
Micheál Carrigy: It needs to be set up on a national basis so that every area is covered. At the moment it is ad hoc, with strong services in some parts of the country and no backup services in other parts. It needs to be replicated across the entire country and the groups need to be supported financially as well. We have seen situations where support groups are set up by parents and they have to fund...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Autism: Autism Policy: Discussion (Resumed) (18 Apr 2023)
Micheál Carrigy: As I said, there is €10 million available. That could fund an awful lot of work with an awful lot of parents' groups around the country.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Autism: Autism Policy: Discussion (Resumed) (18 Apr 2023)
Micheál Carrigy: I welcome everyone to our second session. For the information of our witnesses, I wish to explain some limitations to parliamentary privilege and the practice of the Houses as regards references they may make to other persons in their evidence. The evidence of witnesses physically present or of those who give evidence from within the parliamentary precincts is protected, pursuant to both...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Autism: Autism Policy: Discussion (Resumed) (18 Apr 2023)
Micheál Carrigy: I concur with my colleagues. Well done to the library service, in particular, for the excellent work done in Limerick. It needs to be replicated across the country. In my local authority area, in Longford, much good work has been done, but I ask whether it is being done across the country. The CCMA may be able to revert to the committee on the number of sensory rooms, etc., in the local...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Autism: Autism Policy: Discussion (Resumed) (18 Apr 2023)
Micheál Carrigy: Could the CCMA make a proposal to the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage to provide more one-bedroom housing? I do not understand why it is not happening. There should be a specific allocation within the housing plans for each local authority. When they are working with developers submitting turnkey projects, a mix of one-bedroom and two-bedroom units should be included....

Micheál Carrigy: I again thank the witnesses for joining us.
- Seanad: Nithe i dtosach suíonna - Commencement Matters: Health Services (20 Apr 2023)
Micheál Carrigy: This matter relates to out-of-hours services at St. Joseph's Hospital, Longford. I will give the Minister of State a little background. In December 2022, the old MIDOC service that was there went into receivership and it left no permanent contract in place for the out-of-hours service, or the red-eye service, for evening and weekend services in Longford. To date, a permanent contract has...
- Seanad: Nithe i dtosach suíonna - Commencement Matters: Health Services (20 Apr 2023)
Micheál Carrigy: The one line that stands out to me again is that the "interim arrangements will continue until at least 2 July". The interim arrangements to get a contract were meant to be until the end of January; then the end of April and now they are until 2 July. I acknowledge the agreement has to come from the doctors, but that is in conjunction with the HSE. This is a priority for us in Longford....
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (20 Apr 2023)
Micheál Carrigy: I have a couple of issues to raise. The first is an anomaly in the Forestry Act 2014. We have seen the issues with trying to get licences in forestry and the backlog of felling licences yet to be issued. The anomaly in the Act means if there is an area of forestry in an urban area, which you would think would be protected to maintain green areas within our urban areas, a licence is not...

Before we start our business, I will read some formal notices. All those present in the room are asked to exercise personal responsibility to protect themselves and others from the risk of contracting Covid-19. I remind members of the...

Micheál Carrigy: I thank Ms Dada. The event she will be attending is being run by the Mental Health Commission. I thank her for being such an advocate. It is important to have people who stand up to be advocates for their communities. I say well done and thank for her for attending the committee, engaging with the members and answering their questions. I thank everybody for allowing me 20 minutes for Ms...
