Timmy Dooley: I am asking questions.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Irish Aviation Authority: Chairperson Designate (24 Nov 2021)
Timmy Dooley: I will. All of these matters are in the public domain and all of my questions are ones that I think Ms Hynes should be prepared to answer. If she puts herself forward for a position like this then she should be prepared to answer my questions. If she chooses not to answer then there is nothing that I can about it.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Irish Aviation Authority: Chairperson Designate (24 Nov 2021)
Timmy Dooley: It was. There was also a direction and request from the Department at the time that existing board members would not seek reappointment or election by the internal process of appointment. Ms Hynes was one of three who continued to hang on despite that.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Irish Aviation Authority: Chairperson Designate (24 Nov 2021)
Timmy Dooley: Was that in 2010?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Irish Aviation Authority: Chairperson Designate (24 Nov 2021)
Timmy Dooley: Ms Hynes was chair of Irish Water. Again, there were issues there with a chief executive and a very high bonus. Maybe Ms Hynes could share with us what the chief executive----
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Irish Aviation Authority: Chairperson Designate (24 Nov 2021)
Timmy Dooley: Did Ms Hynes, as chairperson, have no role in that whatsoever?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Irish Aviation Authority: Chairperson Designate (24 Nov 2021)
Timmy Dooley: Thank you.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: An Post: Chairperson Designate (24 Nov 2021)
Timmy Dooley: The Chairman has had to step out for a moment so I am stepping into his role. The first person up is Deputy Crowe. Since he is not here, I will take the couple of minutes assigned to him. I thank Ms Bolger for her work on the board to date. I know the role she will take on as chairman. She comes with considerable experience of An Post, in the first instance, and a very wide area of...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Transport Infrastructure Ireland: Chairperson Designate (1 Dec 2021)
Timmy Dooley: I thank Mr. Llewellyn for his presentation, which I read before the meeting, and wish him well in the challenges ahead. He knows the priorities of the Government, particularly the shift in spending based on the 2:1 initiative that is now in place. Does that put an undue burden on Mr. Llewellyn and TII in its role in meeting what are the obvious needs from a transport infrastructure point of...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Transport Infrastructure Ireland: Chairperson Designate (1 Dec 2021)
Timmy Dooley: That is very helpful. Regarding inter-urban motorways, concern has been raised about the design style of some of the access and egress points to and from the main thoroughfares. Mr. Llewellyn may not be familiar with this issue, in which case it may be a takeaway for him. I know of a number of such junctions that I can identify for him. The ones closest to us in Clare are the Tulla Road,...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Transport Infrastructure Ireland: Chairperson Designate (1 Dec 2021)
Timmy Dooley: I thank Mr. Llewellyn and wish him well in his work. Having read his CV, it is clear he is very well suited and qualified for the role. I look forward to an ongoing and active engagement between him, his management and the committee.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Transport Infrastructure Ireland: Chairperson Designate (1 Dec 2021)
Timmy Dooley: Was Deputy Carey looking for a tip for today?
- Seanad: Broadband Roll-out: Statements (26 Jan 2022)
Timmy Dooley: Like others I welcome the Minister of State and his officials to the House for more statements on broadband, which is something that has been a common feature of this Oireachtas and the previous one. There is little doubt the pandemic has brought into sharp focus the need for high-speed broadband. The vision for it was set more than ten years ago. It has stood the test of time in that...
- Seanad: Violence Against Women: Statements (27 Jan 2022)
Timmy Dooley: I also wish to be associated with the expressions of condolence to the Murphy family and Ashling’s boyfriend, Ryan Casey, on what is a tragedy for all of them and their community. No words spoken here will bring any comfort to them. It is important that we mark this tragic event because it has brought about an outpouring of sympathy and grief and resolve to sort things out across the...
- Seanad: Violence Against Women: Statements (27 Jan 2022)
Timmy Dooley: I also do not want to hear it said that it is not all men. Of course it is not all men who reach a point where they rape, murder or plunder the rights of women, but an awful lot of women are undermined by men every day. A culture of misogyny is endemic in our society, sadly. Whatever its origins, and we all have a fair idea of where it comes from and how it has been allowed to continue, it...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: National Investment Framework for Transport in Ireland: Discussion (26 Jan 2022)
Timmy Dooley: Apologies for not being here; I was speaking in the Seanad on broadband, another important issue that falls within the Minister's remit. We have had discussions with the Department recently about the framework that is supposedly under discussion and how we can plan for the future of transport from a climate change perspective. I know that others have spoken about electric vehicles, EVs. I...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: National Investment Framework for Transport in Ireland: Discussion (26 Jan 2022)
Timmy Dooley: You would nearly have to step off the footpath there were so many people on it.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: National Broadband Plan Update: National Broadband Ireland (27 Jan 2022)
Timmy Dooley: I have listened to Mr. Hendrick's contributions from my office. It is one of the benefits of the Covid changes around here. Where the witnesses may have seen the negatives, we have seen the positives. I thank the National Broadband Ireland representatives for the outlines and for their engagement with us. It was helpful also that we had the opportunity to meet with National Broadband...
