Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Accessibility of Public Transport for People with Disabilities: Discussion (Resumed) (17 Jan 2018)

Kevin O'Keeffe: I welcome the representatives of the transport service providers and thank them for their very informative presentations. My first question is general. Do they comply with some directive on the percentage of their funding to be set aside to provide an upgrade in disability services? Of every €10 they spend, how much is geared towards improving disability access and safe travel? ...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Accessibility of Public Transport for People with Disabilities: Discussion (Resumed) (17 Jan 2018)

Kevin O'Keeffe: I have one other question. Why does Bus Éireann not have audio announcements on its service as Dublin Bus has? What percentage of the Bus Éireann fleet has a screen display for its passengers? Dublin Bus seems to be more advanced. I accept that Bus Éireann is playing catch-up in funding, but is it making progress on the screen display for passengers?

Ceisteanna - Questions (Resumed) - Other Questions: Heritage Council Expenditure (23 Jan 2018)

Kevin O'Keeffe: I thank the Minister for her response. The first thing she should do when she leaves the Chamber is tell the Heritage Council to update its web page. According to its list, there are only 28 member towns in the Irish Walled Towns Network. To support the case of Buttevant, the heritage group is in its infancy. It was only formed in 2007, and the walled towns division was established in...

Kevin O'Keeffe: I am delighted to be given the opportunity to speak on the report of the Joint Committee on the Eighth Amendment of the Constitution. That amendment was passed by the people in 1983. I note that I speak as an individual and a Member of this Dáil. I pay tribute to those Oireachtas Members who participated and gave much of their time to deliberate and compile a report. That is as...

Report of the Joint Committee on the Eighth Amendment of the Constitution: Statements (Resumed) (24 Jan 2018)

Kevin O'Keeffe: They should have taken on board requests, unless other members said "No". I do not see that recorded. It was the responsibility of the chairperson, supported by the secretariat. The job of the secretariat was to bring evidence before the committee. Several names were proposed by pro-life members and some of these were rejected, contributing further to the imbalance in the perspective...

Report of the Joint Committee on the Eighth Amendment of the Constitution: Statements (Resumed) (24 Jan 2018)

Kevin O'Keeffe: Am I not entitled to hold my opinion? Everybody who speaks on this issue in the Chamber is brave. However, if one reverses one's opinion we see what happened across the water with the one and only President Donald Trump, who is now very much pro-life.
