Public Accounts Committee: 2016 Annual Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts
Vote 2 - Department of An Taoiseach
(3 May 2018)

Seán Fleming: For the Deputy's information, the Garda and the Revenue Commissioners normally get copies of these reports if there are relevant matters. They are free, based on that, to investigate and prosecute if they see fit. However, they have to establish their own evidence trail if they are going to court. The documents are not locked up. The Garda and Revenue Commissioners have followed through...

Public Accounts Committee: 2015 Annual Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts
Vote 20 - Garda Síochána - Internal Audit Report on Garda College, Templemore (Resumed)
(14 Jun 2017)

Seán Fleming: That is the essence of the matter. The Garda College is stating it collected money from the students and that was put into this account which was separate from the money included in the Vote. That is my understanding. Essentially, the restaurant received funds from two sources. Some of its money came from the Vote and some from the funds the Garda College collected from the students.

Topical Issue Debate: Criminal Prosecutions (22 Feb 2017)

Seán Fleming: It is disappointing that the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality is not present in the Chamber to deal with this matter, which relates to the administration of justice by the Garda Síochána and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. (18 Oct 2018)

Seán Fleming: ...been miscalculated for six years in a row. Whoever is responsible should be better at counting. It is a fairly straightforward issue which does not involve tens of thousands of people. On the Garda Síochána, Mr. Watt will tell me that the Supplementary Estimate is to provide for Garda overtime. However, there will be overtime next year and that should be budgeted for in the...

Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (6 Jul 2017)

Seán Fleming: The Garda Síochána is slow at getting information. We have other public bodies who are smarter and more prompt in providing information. We had information last night and more information this morning and it still has not answered everything. It has been a feature of our dealings with the Garda Síochána; it has not been as efficient in dealing with the Committee of...

What has NAMA reported to those organisations?

In the year in question, 241 gardaí rightly received payments under the Garda...

No. 630B (i) to (iv) is information requested from An Garda Síochána. There is quite a lot of information here, all of which we will take into consideration in drafting a report, but I want to put it on record that we have received it. It...

Public Accounts Committee: 2011 Annual Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts
Chapter 26: Collection of Motor Taxation
Vote 20: An Garda Síochána
(16 May 2013)

Seán Fleming: Regarding the amounts the Garda collects for bank cash escorts, in 2010 it was €4.276 million, in 2011, €3.8 million and in 2012, €2.2 million. Crime has not gone away, so why did the banks only pay half last year what they paid two years ago? Does the Garda get paid by An Post for escorts, as there are many cash deliveries to post offices? Does An Post make a separate...

Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (3 Apr 2014)

Seán Fleming: I have one question on the Rehab issue. I seek procedural clarification from the Chairman for the committee. At the last meeting, the committee referred a letter to the Garda Síochána because of allegations. Is that the end of it as far as the committee is concerned? Should the committee leave it to the Garda Síochána, should members follow it up or is it simply out of...
