- Draft Commission of Investigation (Certain matters concerning transactions entered into by IBRC) Order 2015: Motion (Resumed) (10 Jun 2015)
Seán Fleming: I will. The Acting Chairman is always impartial, but I noticed that, when others spoke about Fianna Fáil's record in government, she did not make a similar request. I will move on, but the Acting Chairman made her point well and I thank her. The Government's approach is one law for the rich and another for everyone else. I will ask the judge, whoever he or she may be, to consider...
- Draft Commission of Investigation (Certain matters concerning transactions entered into by IBRC) Order 2015: Motion (Resumed) (10 Jun 2015)
Seán Fleming: I understand that the Minister misled the Dáil in relation to the operation of the Department of Finance and I acknowledge that he corrected the record of the House yesterday. The Secretary General of his Department misled the Committee of Public Accounts three weeks ago. If this commission of investigation is established by the Dáil today, I do not know whether he will be allowed...
- Draft Commission of Investigation (Certain matters concerning transactions entered into by IBRC) Order 2015: Motion (Resumed) (10 Jun 2015)
Seán Fleming: Fine. We have arranged a time. The Committee of Public Accounts will deal with this at 12.30 p.m. tomorrow. It now seems that after a commission of investigation has been approved by this House, committees of the House can continue to discuss matters of relevance to what is being investigated by the commission. The Minister will have to square that circle. How can committees have debates...

Seán Fleming: Here we go. The subject matter of the issue is in the terms of reference. This issue will be discussed at the Committee of Public Accounts tomorrow. Can people come in and talk about the subject matter of the terms of reference in committee after the Oireachtas has established this commission of investigation? The relationship framework is also excluded from these terms of reference....

- Topical Issue Debate: Hospital Services (11 Jun 2015)
Seán Fleming: I want to raise the issue of the cutbacks to accident and emergency services at Portlaoise which were announced recently, although some might say that no final decisions have been made. There was a report in The Irish Timeslast September which stated that Department of Health submissions to the Government's comprehensive spending review suggested closing 24-hour services at five hospital...
- Topical Issue Debate: Hospital Services (11 Jun 2015)
Seán Fleming: I thank the Minister for his reply. He has given a commitment to meet with public representatives from County Laois some day next week, along with his colleague the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Deputy Charles Flanagan. He stated that changes would happen but that they would be done on a planned basis. He also stated that the CAT scan does not operate on a 24-hour basis.
- Topical Issue Debate: Hospital Services (11 Jun 2015)
Seán Fleming: Okay. Will he clarify for how many hours the CT scanner is open in the hospital? The real concern is about the downgrade. We already understand the ambulance protocols that are in place. If there is a serious accident on a motorway, even within a mile of Portlaoise hospital, those with broken limbs will be sent to Tullamore, as it deals with orthopaedic issues. If one has a stroke in...

- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (11 Jun 2015)
Seán Fleming: Yes. Since I wrote the letter, the Oireachtas has established a commission of inquiry. When I wrote that letter it was quite clear from comments that the Minister for Finance had an issue and he wanted to correct the record of the Dáil, which he did in person on Tuesday. I wanted the same procedure to apply here rather than a letter coming in here. The statement was given orally and...
