Terry Brennan: Will the witness clarify if a 220 kV underground cable could be run underground to the 275 kV line in Northern Ireland in parallel with what we have at the moment? This would be 275 kV plus 200 kV which is 475 kV. The demand for electricity is reducing and I am sure it is the same situation in Northern Ireland, so has EirGrid looked at the 220 kV in parallel with the existing overhead?

Terry Brennan: Has EirGrid looked at the possibility of a 220 kV underground cable for the entire length or in phases of underground and overground? One would not have the difficulties that occur with different kV, and I appreciate those difficulties. I believe the possibility of a 220 kV should be looked at in parallel with the overhead that is there now. The two could be run in parallel.
