Leaders' Questions. (19 Apr 2005)

Enda Kenny: The Taoiseach is a great person to read up on matters and he knows all the anecdotes. It would pay him to go to the airport at rush hour and observe what is happening. I am interested to hear that 20 trained screeners will be available in a couple of weeks, but I do not know whether there will be equipment for them to use. With 300 or 400 people going through two corrals, one would feel sorry...

Death of Former Member: Expressions of Sympathy. (19 Apr 2005)

Enda Kenny: The Fine Gael family is deeply saddened by the death of Michael J O'Higgins. On behalf of Fine Gael I welcome Michael's widow, Brigid Hogan, who was herself an esteemed member of this House, their children and extended family who join us in the Distinguished Visitors Gallery. Though they miss Michael, they can be proud of his extraordinary commitment to the Oireachtas, to politics and to his...

Order of Business. (19 Apr 2005)

Enda Kenny: I am opposed to the imposition of a guillotine on the Second Stage debate on the Disability Bill 2004 which is an important Bill about which the legislative consultation group issued ten serious recommendations. A number of Deputies wish to speak on it. I do not think it is appropriate to impose a guillotine on this legislation. I oppose the proposal to conclude its consideration at 7 p.m.

Leaders' Questions. (20 Apr 2005)

Enda Kenny: We know that 33,000 fewer patients went through accident and emergency units in 2003 than in 1998. Last week in response to a question in the Dáil the Taoiseach admitted that accident and emergency facilities were, in his words, "not up to scratch". What is a crisis in the rest of the country, and what has driven nurses the length and breadth of the country to protest outside hospitals...

Enda Kenny: ——instead of talking about plans and his vision for the future? He has been eight years at the job and we are still talking about plans. When is he going to take action?

Leaders' Questions. (20 Apr 2005)

Enda Kenny: The Taoiseach's reply shows the scale of the appalling lack of competency of this Government over the past eight years. That it takes a HSA report——

Leaders' Questions. (20 Apr 2005)

Enda Kenny: I am aware the Minister for Defence was flying a phantom last night with St. Bricin's Hospital, which is not available.

Leaders' Questions. (20 Apr 2005)

Enda Kenny: The Taoiseach's response sets out the scale of incompetence and devastation. After eight years, it has taken an independent report by the Health and Safety Authority to trigger the measures to which he referred. If a major hotel had blocked fire escapes and trolleys in its corridors, there would be calls by Members to close the facility. Will the Taoiseach give an assurance that patients...

Northern Ireland Issues. (20 Apr 2005)

Enda Kenny: I share the Taoiseach's view that the d'Hondt system for the appointment of Ministers in the Northern Ireland Executive is an essential part of the Good Friday Agreement. I understand that when the DUP publishes its election manifesto tomorrow, it will say that it will turn away from this system. Does the Taoiseach regard that as a serious threat to a core element of the Good Friday Agreement...
