Leaders' Questions (30 Jun 2009)

Enda Kenny: We are now in a national crisis. Tomorrow the live register figures are expected to show an increase of between 10,000 and 15,000. I do not want to be back here every month looking at spiralling live register figures that represent men and women being made redundant at a time when employment is so critical for us. In the cut and thrust of debate in the House things that are said can be...

Order of Business (30 Jun 2009)

Enda Kenny: I ask the Taoiseach whether the Government has taken a firmer view on when the second referendum on Lisbon will be held. When we say early October, are we talking about the 2nd, 3rd, 9th or 10th? Second, I see that some reports are beginning to be leaked from An Bord Snip Nua. I understand the Government will receive this report formally on Thursday or Friday. Is it intended that...

Order of Business (30 Jun 2009)

Enda Kenny: It would give the Minister for Health and Children the opportunity to say something also. Somebody has to find this out anyway. While measures are in place to prevent it happening again, it happened in this case and these patients were abused. Some nine or ten reasons are given in the Fine Gael-Labour motion as to why that happened, but somebody needs to find out.

Order of Business (30 Jun 2009)

Enda Kenny: May I have a response from the Taoiseach as to whether the Government will concede to having a commission of inquiry? Let us get on with the business that needs to be dealt with.

Enda Kenny: Yesterday we got confirmation of 120 job losses in Bausch and Lomb in Waterford, 80 job losses in ICT Eurotel Marketing Limited in Belmullet and 100 job losses in Meadow Meats in Rathdowney. The Taoiseach knows the figures that will be released by the CSO at 11 o'clock for the live register for June. Will he tell the House what the figures are?

Leaders' Questions (1 Jul 2009)

Enda Kenny: The Civil Service-speak, that this is the slowest rate of increase, demonstrates just where we are. In January the rate of increase was 33,000, in February it was 26,000, in March it was 20,000, in April it was 15,000, in May it was 13,000 and in June it was 11,400. This economy is in crisis. Enda Kenny: I understand Fianna Fáil's partner in government, the Green Party, is to have a party conference on 18 July to discover whether party members can find it within themselves to support the second referendum on the Lisbon treaty. Programmes for Government. (1 Jul 2009)

Enda Kenny: I have a question in respect of a matter of concern to people all over the country, namely, the capital programme. In 2008, some 300 schools were in planning and 1,000 in the pre-planning process. The school building programme for 2009 has been reduced by €30 million. The Government has scrapped the minor works programme for 2008 and 2009, while the summer works programme, which was...
