European Council: Statements. (13 Apr 2005)

Enda Kenny: The Stability and Growth Pact, the Lisbon strategy, the UN and climate change were among the key matters discussed at the last European Council meeting. It was careless that no Irish Minister attended the subsequent meeting of the EU Finance Ministers to reform the Stability and Growth Pact. I welcome the new rules allowing member states with significant infrastructural needs to borrow to...

Order of Business. (14 Apr 2005)

Enda Kenny: I wish to raise three issues with the Tánaiste. No legislation regarding the nursing home charges is contained on the A list of legislation. When does the Tánaiste expect to be able to introduce such legislation? Will that legislation deal with the problem of lump sum payments which might result in pensioners having their pensions reduced? Will it also address the matter of the private...

European Council Meetings. (19 Apr 2005)

Enda Kenny: It is obvious the French referendum campaign will be hard fought and the result will be close. At the March meeting of the European Council, did the Taoiseach have discussions with other government leaders who must hold referenda in their countries, such as Denmark, the UK and so forth? What is the Government's view of the trend that may emerge? In the event that the referendum is defeated in...

European Council Meetings. (19 Apr 2005)

Enda Kenny: I wish to ask the Taoiseach two questions regarding his comment on the Lisbon Agenda in respect of the importance of competitiveness. For young people, some of whom are in the Visitors Gallery, the extent of research and development that takes place in this country is far from what it should be. In the context of the Lisbon Agenda, does the Taoiseach see a problem here? Given the spread of...

Leaders' Questions. (19 Apr 2005)

Enda Kenny: I wish to raise the consequences of the security audit at Dublin Airport last week, the delays passengers are experiencing and the frustration and anger of thousands of people who are being discommoded not because of the importance of security for every passenger but because of the inability to manage numbers effectively at the airport. A person travelling from south County Dublin who must...
