Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children: Tackling Obesity: Discussion with Operation Transformation (14 Feb 2013)

Denis Naughten: I thank those who have presented to the committee. Recently I heard a statistic of which we should all be conscious. This is the first generation of children whose life expectancy is shorter than that of their parents. There is an onus on all of us to tackle that. Dr. Eva Orsmond made an important point on obesity. We are in straitened economic times but there is money to be saved. The...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children: Scrutiny of EU Legislative Proposals (21 Feb 2013)

Denis Naughten: I have two or three questions. In his opening presentation Mr. Fitzgerald said that based on EU research, the impact of tobacco consumption on the health budget is 3%.
