Public Accounts Committee: Financial Statements 2024: Tusla - the Child and Family Agency (2 Oct 2025)

Séamus McGrath: I refer to a report in The Irish Times in relation to blacklisted care providers and internal discussions within Tusla to go back to using some of these blacklisted providers. In one case fake Garda vetting documents were supplied and so on. How many blacklisted suppliers are we talking about in terms of the discussions that were undertaken within Ms Duggan's organisation?

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Housing Provision (8 Oct 2025)

Séamus McGrath: I very much welcome the establishment of the housing activation office. This idea came from the work of the Housing Commission. The Minister took it on board and brought forward his own proposals in relation to it, and that is very welcome. As he says, working under the one roof and having the various forms of expertise from the local authority sector, the utilities sector, the Department...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Housing Provision (8 Oct 2025)

Séamus McGrath: I thank the Minister for his update on the work of the office. I want to get a sense of the work plan over the coming months of the office and the level of activity that will be undertaken in trying to unblock some of these barriers. I ask the Minister to clarify when he feels that the head person of that office will be in place to lead it and the very important work it undertakes.

Committee on Key Issues affecting the Traveller Community: Business of Joint Committee (9 Oct 2025)

Séamus McGrath: I thank the Leas-Chathaoirleach for raising this on the tenth anniversary. It was an absolute tragedy and an unspeakable tragedy with the loss of life and the impact on families. That impact continues, obviously. In many ways it is a byword for lack of progress on Traveller issues around accommodation and supports. As others have said, we have to continually remember what happened and use...

From the opening statement, it is obvious there is a lot of good work being done and also an acknowledgment of the marginalisation issue within the Traveller community. It is welcome to see that level of...

Committee on Key Issues affecting the Traveller Community: Child Protection and Family Support: Discussion (Resumed) (9 Oct 2025)

Committee on Key Issues affecting the Traveller Community: Child Protection and Family Support: Discussion (Resumed) (9 Oct 2025)

Séamus McGrath: That is very good. It reinforces the point about the power of education. The key point is Tusla is empowering and enabling the Travelling community. It is not about handing out supports but about enabling members of the community to improve their own position in society. You cannot beat the power of enabling people to be able to do that themselves. I commend the agency on that work. It...
