Gerry Horkan: Is that sufficient and does the office have sufficient staff? I note Mr. Deering mentioned the UK figures earlier. Obviously it has a bigger population than we have and, therefore, different requirements. Is he satisfied with the financial and staff resources of the office?

Gerry Horkan: I just want to thank the committee. We dealt with the new set up and operations within the proposed merged entity and also the tracker mortgages comprehensively this morning. I thank both witnesses for all their efforts and I look forward to further engagement with them in the coming months.

Gerry Horkan: But if I go into one of the shops RGDATA represents and ask for 100 lotto tickets, is there a limit on the number that can be sold? Is there a protocol in place to warn me of the dangers of gambling or is it the case that if I want to buy 1,000 tickets, I can?

Gerry Horkan: Does RGDATA use mystery shoppers in the way other agencies use them to monitor alcohol and tobacco sales? Has somebody under age tried to buy lotto tickets? Have people been convicted of selling to people under age?

Gerry Horkan: I acknowledge RGDATA does not but the organisation represents various shop owners who may have encountered a brush with the law because somebody came in who looked like he or she was aged 23 but was only 17. Is Ms Buckley aware of anybody testing the system to see if people are buying tickets under age?

Gerry Horkan: State agencies send staff into shops to ensure compliance with age restrictions on the sale of cigarettes. Is Ms Buckley aware of anybody doing the same for lottery ticket sales?

Gerry Horkan: Ms Buckley said the new operator should report on the technical outages and the online environment avoids many of the controls in the shops but also reduces the margin RGDATA members make from selling these products.
