Róisín Shortall: The GP visit card was introduced in 2005 as a graduated benefit, so that people on lower incomes who do not qualify for a medical card, would not be deterred on cost grounds from visiting their GP. I have no plans at present to extend the scope of the GP visit card to include exemptions to general hospital charges.

Róisín Shortall: Orthotic helmets are custom made medical devices manufactured for specific patients on receipt of a prescription from an appropriately qualified health care professional. The Irish Medicines Board is the competent authority for medical devices in Ireland. There is one manufacturer of custom made medical devices registered with the IMB who has a product category "head orthosis".
