- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Skills and Supports Required for Businesses to Meet Decarbonisation Targets: Discussion (8 Nov 2023)
Róisín Garvey: My experience is from Clare local development and volunteers who have reached out to me for planning information they could not get from the SEAI to make events happen locally. Perhaps there is an SEAI mentor, but Clare local development, community workers and volunteers, like me and others, are on the ground making it happen.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Skills and Supports Required for Businesses to Meet Decarbonisation Targets: Discussion (8 Nov 2023)
Róisín Garvey: I will turn it around. I am wondering how we can help, what else needs to be done and what more supports the representatives need. They have huge challenges. In some ways, everybody in every business wants to go green for lots of different reasons. It is the witnesses' job to make it happen and to make sure the skills are there. I know there are targets for engagement but the carbon...

Róisín Garvey: Should we promote that on national television and places like that? This is so people do not think they have to borrow €100,000 to go for a deep retrofit and there is no other choice.

Róisín Garvey: If people are leasing a building, the building owner does not care about the bills for the business. Lots of small businesses are doing that now. Is any work being done on engaging landlords to show them that it is worth their while financially to increase the value of the building?

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Skills and Supports Required for Businesses to Meet Decarbonisation Targets: Discussion (8 Nov 2023)
Róisín Garvey: I know that. I am saying that many small businesses are leasing buildings from landlords and those landlords are saying they do not care and to "tough up". Are we doing anything about that?

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Skills and Supports Required for Businesses to Meet Decarbonisation Targets: Discussion (8 Nov 2023)
Róisín Garvey: Okay. Will Dr. Sharkey come back to me on that? I would love to know more about that and whether the Department is actually doing it. I will ask the Department.

Róisín Garvey: I am going to ask a similar question as I did not get a proper answer on it. We have the local enterprise office doing the green for micro programme, which seems very similar to the climate action voucher. One is €2,000 and the other is €2,500 but they do not actually get the money. They just apply for it and it costs €2,500. That is the funding they get from...

- Seanad: Electoral (Amendment) Bill 2023: Committee and Remaining Stages (13 Dec 2023)
Róisín Garvey: On a separate topic, I wanted to ask why there was not six-seater constituencies in the first instance. In respect of local boundaries, my parish is small but is divided into three different electoral areas, much to the dismay of a lot of people there. The importance of keeping communities together is affected by that division. People have to drive 20 miles to vote rather than 3 miles to...

Róisín Garvey: I thank the Minister for being here today. This is very straightforward. I have many male friends and they get very depressed when they start to go bald. It can occur naturally as early as in their 20s, and up to their 50s. It is upsetting for them even though it is natural for men to go around being bald despite them not perhaps always loving the idea. If that is upsetting, then how...
