Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (1 Jun 2022)

Aisling Dolan: As my colleagues have mentioned, the announcement of funding for the Government investment in the post office network is absolutely crucial. It is crucial to support our postmasters and post offices all over the country but especially in the west. A report done by the Irish Postmasters' Union with Grant Thornton states that 1.3 million people access services weekly from the post office. It...

Aisling Dolan: That is okay. I can take a shorter time.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Skills: Future Funding of Higher Education: Discussion (Resumed) (24 May 2022)

Aisling Dolan: I welcome all of the speakers here today. It is great to have champions for apprenticeship programmes here, because that is what we want to see. We want people to be champions who will encourage and show many other students coming into the leaving certificate that there are other options out there. I come from Ballinasloe and I represent Roscommon and Galway. Yesterday, I was at the...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Skills: Future Funding of Higher Education: Discussion (Resumed) (24 May 2022)

Aisling Dolan: Cork is a large county and Galway is second-largest county. There are many colleges of further education and different towns, so it would reduce transport costs for students if we could deliver some of that theory in different locations. I could imagine in locations such as Skibbereen in west Cork there may be a place where the ETBs could look to deliver education to apprentices.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Skills: Future Funding of Higher Education: Discussion (Resumed) (24 May 2022)

Aisling Dolan: Is it the case we must look at developing the expertise to deliver those programmes within each of our technological universities, as opposed to them being available in one? Is there a demand for the programme to be available in more than one?

Aisling Dolan: I thank Mr. English.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Skills: Future Funding of Higher Education: Discussion (Resumed) (24 May 2022)

Aisling Dolan: I thank the Cathaoirleach. I thank the Minister for his time here, and with his team as well. I note that the goal of that €307 million will be to reduce our lecturer-student ratios and to make sure that the universities can compete at a world-class level. We have such excellent talent but it has to be acknowledged the numbers that are attending third level now are up to 240,000...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Skills: Provision of Education Supports for Ukrainian Students (1 Jun 2022)

Aisling Dolan: I welcome the Minister, Minister of State and officials from the Department of Education and thank them for their time. Obviously the students coming here from Ukraine have endured a lot of trauma, upset and stress. I very much welcome what the Minister and Minister of State said about the importance of the National Educational Psychological Service, NEPS, teams and the educational...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Skills: Provision of Education Supports for Ukrainian Students (1 Jun 2022)

Aisling Dolan: Since the Senator has no further questions, I might get to ask a few questions now, at least until the other members return and I get ejected from this seat. I welcome the Minister and thank him for attending. It is a traumatic situation for the people coming to Ireland from Ukraine. We discussed this matter with the Minister, Deputy Foley, and the Minister of State, Deputy Madigan. It...

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (14 Jun 2022)

Aisling Dolan: I acknowledge Senator Currie's contribution and those of many other colleagues. What we are hearing from the UK today is atrocious. Naomi Long, head of the Alliance Party, spoke on Radio 1 this morning. She was very clear that the majority of people in Northern Ireland, and the majority of MLAs, who are the representatives of Northern Ireland, wish to see an operational Northern Ireland...

Seanad: Circular Economy, Waste Management (Amendment) and Minerals Development (Amendment) Bill 2022: Second Stage (14 Jun 2022)

Aisling Dolan: I welcome the Minister of State, who has responsibility for communications and the circular economy. This is all about tackling challenges like climate change, biodiversity loss, waste and pollution. As the Minister of State is fully aware, it is based on three principles: eliminating waste and pollution; circulating products and materials; and regenerating nature as well. Design is so...

Seanad: Birth Information and Tracing Bill 2022: Report Stage (14 Jun 2022)

Aisling Dolan: To clarify, paragraph (f) refers to "information on any medical treatments, procedures or vaccinations". That would include any type of treatment the person would have experienced. That is extremely clear in the legislation we have in front of us.

Seanad: Birth Information and Tracing Bill 2022: Report Stage (14 Jun 2022)

Aisling Dolan: I ask for clarification on whether the types of institutions Senator Higgins referred to are included under the HSE. Are those areas covered in those parts of the section that relate to the Minister for Health and the HSE? This is something that should be included as part of that.
