If it does not get through would Dr. Bedford's position be compromised, given that he is an advocate of a zero alcohol approach?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Medical Bureau of Road Safety: Discussion with Chairman Designate (20 Sep 2017)
Kevin O'Keeffe: The witness hit the nail on the head. Some people are not too sure what they can drink. I put the question to the Department of Justice and Equality. This legislation is arising out of the fact that the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Deputy Ross, stated that it was being abused by some who were just getting fixed penalty points as opposed to being put off the road. He felt...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Medical Bureau of Road Safety: Discussion with Chairman Designate (20 Sep 2017)
Kevin O'Keeffe: That is a matter of opinion, Chairman. May I ask one more question? There has been a knee-jerk reaction in regard to the culture of the breath test kits not being used and an exaggeration of fears. One can see checkpoints in the afternoon. I was intercepted one afternoon at 4 p.m. when I was coming out of a local town. There was a queue of cars, with the drivers waiting to be breath...

However, Brexit brings its own fears and we do not know what will happen. Irrespective of what happens with Brexit, can Dr. Hiney see the business growing?
