- Select Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Estimates for Public Services 2016
Vote 31 - Transport, Tourism and Sport (Supplementary) (7 Dec 2016) Shane Ross: It is short of what is required. I agree with the Deputy. Under the capital plan the moneys are due to increase. I have now secured the first significant step towards restoring funding to a sustainable level in the medium term, particularly for the regional and local roads that the Deputy refers to. The capital expenditure on the regular maintenance of local and regional roads will...

- Select Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Estimates for Public Services 2016
Vote 31 - Transport, Tourism and Sport (Supplementary) (7 Dec 2016) Shane Ross: I think 40% of the money has been given for preventative measures. The ratio is 60:40, with 60% for a response to what happened and 40% for preventative measures. We hope that it will not repeat itself because the preventative measures will be effective and there will not be such a crisis or a need for such large funds in the future. We cannot guarantee that, despite the weather today,...

- Topical Issue Debate: Aviation Issues (8 Dec 2016)
Shane Ross: I welcome the opportunity to address the House on the recent very positive developments regarding Irish airline NAI and I thank the Deputy for raising the issue. I welcomed the decision last Friday by the US Department of Transportation to grant a foreign air carrier permit to NAI. Under the terms of the EU-US Open Skies agreement, this permit will allow the airline to fly from any airport...
- Topical Issue Debate: Aviation Issues (8 Dec 2016)
Shane Ross: What the Deputy says is speculative. Maybe she is right or maybe she is wrong. I do not believe she is right, but we will wait and see. All I can see is the evidence before me of what the airline itself has stated. It has stated that NAI has no Asian based crew and that US and EU based crew will be used on NAI transatlantic services. It has stated that Norwegian always follows the rules...

- Seanad: Commencement Matters: Local Improvement Scheme (8 Dec 2016)
Shane Ross: I thank the Senator for raising this matter, which I recognise as important. I can understand why he might have thought I am not terribly familiar with it and it is a fair assumption. It is not the case now but it would have been the case six or eight months ago. Several of my comrades in Government have made me familiar with it and I hear of little else from Deputy Kevin Boxer Moran and...
