Terry Leyden: Yes.

Seanad: Energy Bill 2016: Report and Final Stages (21 Jul 2016)

Terry Leyden: I will delay it as long as I like.

Seanad: Energy Bill 2016: Report and Final Stages (21 Jul 2016)

Terry Leyden: The Leas-Chathaoirleach should listen to what I say and then respond.

Seanad: Energy Bill 2016: Report and Final Stages (21 Jul 2016)

Terry Leyden: I welcome the Minister and his officials. This was a Seanad Bill in which the Minister was not initially involved. I respect the amendments made by the Dáil. To be totally realistic, the Dáil will go into recess and will not return until the end of September. As a realist, I recommend to the House that the amendments be dealt with without great debate because, quite frankly,...

Seanad: Energy Bill 2016: Report and Final Stages (21 Jul 2016)

Terry Leyden: I thank the Minister and his officials for bringing forward the Bill, and I wish him, his staff and the House a very successful summer break, which we all need after a very difficult electoral and ministerial year with regard to forming a government. I wish everyone well and I hope everyone returns. I believe we will be in this Chamber until December but I am not sure of the situation....

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Regional Development, Rural Affairs, Arts and the Gaeltacht: Rural Development and Infrastructure: Belturbet, Connemara and Kells Municipal Districts (20 Sep 2016)

Terry Leyden: I should explain that while I am not a member of the committee, all Members of the Oireachtas have a right to attend and speak at committee meetings. I was listening to the proceedings before I joined the meeting. This is an excellent exercise as it gives councillors and local authority officials an opportunity to discuss openly what difficulties they are experiencing with national...

Seanad: Order of Business (28 Sep 2016)

Terry Leyden: We are here.

Seanad: Order of Business (28 Sep 2016)

Terry Leyden: Could the Leader ask the Minister for Health to come to the House to explain the circumstances surrounding a two-year-old child who was refused treatment by WestDoc in Roscommon last November and was brought by very anxious parents to Portiuncula Hospital bypassing Roscommon University Hospital, which has no accident and emergency department? The parents had to drive to Portiuncula Hospital...

Seanad: Order of Business (28 Sep 2016)

Seanad: Order of Business (28 Sep 2016)

Terry Leyden: It is not nonsense when a two-year-old child has to be brought to Portiuncula Hospital when the situation was very serious. The child has received a bill from Intrum Justitia for €100. The family earns €400 per week. This company has been directed by the HSE. The company seems to be chaired by a Swedish individual called Lars Lundquist while other individuals on the board of...

Seanad: Order of Business (28 Sep 2016)

Terry Leyden: Well I am going to name them because I believe they should be named.

Seanad: Order of Business (28 Sep 2016)

Terry Leyden: I have a few more names but I will not give them out of respect for the Chair.

Seanad: Order of Business (28 Sep 2016)

Terry Leyden: This company has been assigned to pursue a two-year-old child for €100. That is bloody outrageous. It is about time the Minister for Health took control of the health service. He should not allow these bureaucrats to engage an international company to collect €100. The bill was sent to the child but the child cannot pay it.

Seanad: Order of Business (28 Sep 2016)

Terry Leyden: I am telling my constituents not to pay it in the circumstances because a child aged two years of age is not liable for a bill of €100. It is outrageous. Senator Feighan can be very proud that the accident and emergency department in Roscommon University Hospital is closed. It is a bloody shame and Senator Feighan voted to close it.

Seanad: Order of Business (28 Sep 2016)

Terry Leyden: Rubbish. Absolute lies.

Seanad: Order of Business (28 Sep 2016)

Terry Leyden: The Senator voted for the closure.

Seanad: Order of Business (28 Sep 2016)

Terry Leyden: Not if you are dead.

Seanad: Order of Business (28 Sep 2016)

Terry Leyden: People have died as a result of the accident and emergency department being closed.
