Written Answers — Department of Environment, Community and Local Government: Election Management System (26 Feb 2015)

Ruth Coppinger: 224. To ask the Minister for Environment, Community and Local Government in view of the increase in the number of naturalised citizens, if he will issue guidelines to polling staff, in the upcoming referenda, to allow those listed on the electoral register, as non-Irish citizens, to vote, where they can produce evidence of their citizenship, such as a passport, or certificate of...

Other Questions: Education Standards (3 Mar 2015)

Ruth Coppinger: 120. To ask the Minister for Education and Skills if an analysis has been conducted to assess the impact of the reduction in the number of teachers and special needs assistants on education standards; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [8830/15]

Other Questions: Education Standards (3 Mar 2015)

Ruth Coppinger: Has an audit been done on the impact of austerity on education and on the hundreds of teachers and special needs assistants taken out of schools over the past number of years by the previous Government and by this one? Will the Minister make a statement on that?

Other Questions: Education Standards (3 Mar 2015)

Ruth Coppinger: There have been improvements in reading and mathematics. One principal has sent an e-mail to me asking what the reward for teachers and schools has been. It has been a continuation of cuts that were brought in by Fianna Fáil in the previous Administration, but which were then added to by the current Government, such as a 15% cut in resource teaching hours. The reversal of the cuts has...

Other Questions: Education Standards (3 Mar 2015)

Ruth Coppinger: It is despicable that the previous Government, which brought the troika into this country, particularly targeted children, as the UNICEF report clearly indicated, and gutted the education system with, for example, 100 primary school teachers lost around that time in Dublin West. The present Government has continued to make children and education pay. For example, 98% of second level schools...

Other Questions: Education Standards (3 Mar 2015)

Ruth Coppinger: Will the Minister restore all those cuts to teachers now?

[8829/15]

Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht: Select Sub-Committee on Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht: Estimates for Public Services 2015
Vote 33 - Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht (Revised)
(3 Mar 2015)

Ruth Coppinger: I wanted to ask about the overall funding for arts, heritage and the Gaeltacht. The Minister said that an additional €6.2 million in funding had been carried over from the 2014 capital provision. I wanted to check that this was for capital funding. What projects is this funding for? Is it just for existing projects or is there something new? From 2008 to 2015, the budgets of the...

Ruth Coppinger: I was not referring to the building workers involved in those construction projects. I was obviously referring to people in the arts sector, so the Minister has not answered my question. I also asked about the National Library of Ireland. It only got an allocation of €700,000 rather than the €1.2 million it requested.

Ruth Coppinger: The National Museum of Ireland will get a smaller allocation this year than it got in 2012. Even though the Minister is pointing out the positive in that the funding has increased, the point is that in 2013 and 2014 the National Museum of Ireland got less. Under her Government, it got-----

Ruth Coppinger: I will just finish. It has been pointed out to the public and blazed publicly that it is getting an increase but the funding is much lower than it was in 2012.

Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: Poverty Impact Assessment (5 Mar 2015)

Ruth Coppinger: 3. To ask the Minister for Social Protection if her Department has carried out an analysis of the impact cuts in welfare payments have had on women; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [9550/15]

Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: Poverty Impact Assessment (5 Mar 2015)

Ruth Coppinger: Will the Tánaiste and Minister for Social Protection indicate whether her Department has undertaken a gender analysis of the impact of the cuts in social welfare payments that have taken place in recent years? Has there been any study of the impact in particular on women, because it would seem that the axe is falling disproportionately on women, who tend to have responsibility for children?

Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: Poverty Impact Assessment (5 Mar 2015)

Ruth Coppinger: This would be laughable if it was not so serious. I will outline a list of the cuts the Tánaiste has introduced that would primarily fall on women. The cuts to child benefit mainly hit women. It has been cut by €10 to €130 for the first and second child and by €18 for the third child and subsequent children so a large family will be hit even more. The...
