Terry Brennan: Yes.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport and Communications: General Scheme of Road Traffic Bill 2015: Discussion (Resumed) (6 May 2015)
Terry Brennan: I commend Mr. Jonathan Molony, Mr. Gerry McMahon and the assistant commissioner on their presentations. One of the assistant commissioner's last statements was to the effect that we all have a role to play and that each and every one of us has a responsibility. That is quite true. I commend the efforts of those responsible for reducing the number of deaths on our roads over the last few...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport and Communications: General Scheme of Road Traffic Bill 2015: Discussion (Resumed) (6 May 2015)
Terry Brennan: I asked a question on the speed limits. Is there any discretion on the 30 km/h, 40 km/h, 50 km/h or 60 km/h limits?
- Seanad: Sport Ireland Bill 2014: Report and Final Stages (7 May 2015)
Terry Brennan: While we are on the subject of bankruptcy, I was not happy with the answer I received to a question I put to the Minister of State last week. He did not give a full account of the outstanding legal fees. Do they amount to €100,000 or €2 million? Will the new body be liable for these outstanding costs? I would prefer this money to be spent on sporting organisations rather...
- Seanad: Order of Business (12 May 2015)
Terry Brennan: I wish to welcome further good news on the jobs front here in Dublin. Alexion Pharmaceuticals, which is based here, announced recently a €450 million expansion to its premises that will increase its workforce by a further 200, as well as creating 800 construction jobs over the next four years. This is great news for the construction industry and must be welcomed by all Members. I...
- Seanad: Order of Business (14 May 2015)
Terry Brennan: I also welcome the good news that Ireland will be hosting the women's Rugby World Cup in two years time. It is just reward for their successes in faraway countries all over the world and particularly their success in last year's world cup in Paris, where they finished fourth, having beaten on their way the famous New Zealand team, the Black Ferns. It was a major achievement for the women's...
- Seanad: Order of Business (26 May 2015)
Terry Brennan: On my way to Dublin this morning, I stopped for a meeting in the famous Ballymascanlon House Hotel on the Cooley Peninsula. The motto over the front door of the building is "Festina lente", which translates as "Hasten slowly". Count Plunkett, a previous owner of Ballymascanlon House, was a Member of the First Dáil which assembled in the Mansion House.
- Seanad: Order of Business (26 May 2015)
Terry Brennan: I did not know that.
- Seanad: Order of Business (26 May 2015)
Terry Brennan: Yes, and I would also like to ask Senator Norris a question.
- Seanad: Order of Business (26 May 2015)
Terry Brennan: I will ask my question through the offices of the Deputy Leader.
- Seanad: Order of Business (26 May 2015)
Terry Brennan: I ask him to change his mind and run for President. I congratulate Senators Norris, Zappone, Power and Eamonn Coghlan on the major effort and significant contribution they made to the "Yes" vote. Well done to all concerned. I will speak tomorrow about another issue I had intended to raise as the Cathaoirleach has cut me short.
- Seanad: Order of Business (26 May 2015)
Terry Brennan: I said he should reconsider.
- Seanad: Springboard Programme: Motion (27 May 2015)
Terry Brennan: I second the motion. Cuirim fáilte roimh an Aire Stáit go dtí an Teach. I seem to have been looking through the same statistics as Senator Jim D'Arcy and will try to avoid repetition. Springboard Plus, which incorporates the ICT skills conversion programme, is fully funded through the national training fund. It complements the core State-funded education and training system...
- Seanad: Order of Business (28 May 2015)
Terry Brennan: I agree with the statements of Senators on the other side of the fence that it is a futile exercise to have a debate on Aer Lingus this afternoon after the decision has been made. It should happen sooner, if at all possible. I encourage the Leader to fit in an hour and cancel what is already on the programme to discuss it. Whether we can make a difference is another matter. From 1 July...
- Seanad: Order of Business (10 Jun 2015)
Terry Brennan: I wish to make two happy announcements. I welcome the fact that a further American football game, between Boston College and Georgia Tech, will take place in Dublin next September. American college football is not just making a name for itself but is making a second home for itself here. This should be welcomed by all involved in tourism and sport. Second, Dublin is the chosen destination...
- Seanad: Order of Business (10 Jun 2015)
Terry Brennan: I am just welcoming these initiatives. It augurs well for tourism that we are getting these two most prestigious events in our capital city.

- Seanad: Order of Business (16 Jun 2015)
Terry Brennan: I would like to be associated with the condolences expressed on the tragedy in California involving so many young Irish people. I have family living in that part of the world. I sympathise with those young people and their families and commend the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the consulate on taking immediate action. The workers at Clerys need more than sympathy. As...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport and Communications: North-South Interconnector: Discussion (16 Jun 2015)
Terry Brennan: I thank both witnesses for their presentations. Previous speakers asked what are the benefits to southern Ireland if we have, as they state, energy that is surplus to requirements. We have an interconnector, which I know, because I live close to the Border, was out of commission for quite some time. What alternative supply did Northern Ireland have? I am sure Northern Ireland benefited at...
