Order of Business (10 Nov 2009)

Tom Sheahan: Following the promise of €200,000 in 2007 and €300,000 in 2008, will the Taoiseach use his high office to get somebody in the National Roads Authority to get his or her finger out and get work carried out on Laune Bridge because it has dropped 11 inches since that money was allocated? We do not want what happened in Malahide to happen there.

Order of Business (10 Nov 2009)

Tom Sheahan: The money was promised. We do not want anything to happen to Laune Bridge because it will cut off the whole peninsula of Iveragh. Will the Taoiseach use his high office to contact somebody in the National Roads Authority? There should be no more surveys; let us get some work done on the bridge.

School Accommodation. (10 Nov 2009)

Tom Sheahan: I welcome the common sense approach that was adopted by the Minister for Education and Science in his recent press release on prefabricated classrooms. The construction of permanent classrooms makes sense in terms of immediate and long-term planning. Order of Business (12 Nov 2009)

Tom Sheahan: Was it intended that the €200 levy on second homes introduced in the budget would be tax deductible? On communications legislation, is it fair and equitable that a small operator of a holiday home village must pay television licence fees——

Order of Business (12 Nov 2009)

Tom Sheahan: The issue arises under the communications Bill. A small operator who did not build up his business through the business expansion scheme or Government tax incentives must pay——

Order of Business (12 Nov 2009)

Tom Sheahan: I am coming to the point. The operator in question, who must purchase a television licence for each of his holiday homes, is competing with 100 bedroomed hotels which have one television licence. Is that fair and equitable?
